1983 Porsche 911 SC Cabriolet Additional Info:
The 911SC Cabriolet was Porsche's first fully open-topped 911, after two decades of coupes and targas. While well-received, it was a short-lived model and is highly sought-after today. This 911SC Cabriolet was originally delivered new in Europe and brought to the U.S. in 1983 by the seller's brother, thoroughly federalized to comply with all emissions, lighting and safety equipment standards.
Roughly eight years ago, my friend acquired the car from his brother, treating it to a full body restoration, utilizing all original sheetmetal as—fortunately—rust was absent. It was repainted in its original Alpine White, with a new canvas top fitted. The top is still beautiful, water-tight and with a clear rear window. The cushions of the leather seats were reupholstered as they were then showing wear. The seat backs—then excellent—were not reupholstered, and are now showing wear, the driver's seat in particular, with seams opening in two places as shown. The leather itself is still intact; the stitching has come apart, and may be able to be re-stitched by a good upholstery shop. The leather could also use a good treatment of hide food, as it's dry in places. The oxblood color appears mis-matched in some of the photos, but is not. The lighting played differently on the surfaces and caused this appearance. It won't take much to detail this interior to look great.
A high-end Alpine stereo system was installed, along with upgraded speakers, amp and subwoofer in the frunk. All lights and gauges operate except for the clock, and the AC system is intact and in good shape, however, the blower motor recently failed. The car starts immediately, hot or cold and runs extremely well. It shifts easily and smoothly, the clutch takeup is firm, the brakes were recently rebuilt with new rotors, calipers, etc., and the suspension is excellent and squeak-free.
Aside from the leather seat upholstery, the only exterior flaws noted were a small crack in a lens in back and a tiny ding on the trailing edge of the driver's door as circled in the photos. The body is stunningly straight and true, with ideal panel gaps and paint luster like new. Matching ZR-rated tires are in excellent condition at all corners.
Here's a gorgeous classic Porsche drop-top that will turn heads everywhere it goes, and, with a bit of interior detailing, will win trophies at local and club shows as well. And boy, is it fun to drive!
I'm selling this car for my friend, and will forward any questions to him promptly (please do not ask the reserve). It's in his name with current California registration. In-person inspection is welcomed, by appointment. The car is located in Malibu, CA. Being a European delivery car the real VIN doesn’t work here in eBay’s template. The actual VIN isWPOZZZ91ZDS151005.
