1982 Porsche 928 S Additional Info:
In 2005-2006 I was given the opportunity to purchase a 1982 Model Porsche 928 S from its only prior owner who purchased the vehicle off the Porsche factory floor.
Anomalies in the vehicle details and paperwork led me to purchase it. In the area of collectible cars, anomalies are what make them collectible. It was the number of anomalies that had me invest further in the vehicle.
Here are a few of the numerous anomalies found with this specific vehicle:
1. The VIN database of imported Vehicles lists this car as having 3 Speed Automatic Transmission with all Grey Charcoal interior, Carpeting and all grey Cloth Bucket Seats.
The vehicle has factory installed hand stitched two-tone camel colored leather, including the ceiling interior.
This vehicle has not been altered from the factory and all numbers are "matched" original.
2. The registration date for the vehicle had a peculiar sale date on it (00/00/1982) and was a 1982 model 928 as listed on the registration and title, but is actually a 928S. The California DMV said that a date like that would be a case of an irregular or special type of import, otherwise it would have the exact date of sale on the vehicle registration.
3. The Porsche 928S was not released until 1983 in the United States, so this vehicle contradicts the facts from Porsche. The vehicle came with its own set of manuals for repairs. In the manuals parts from 1981 and 1982 variables of the German model are required for servicing the vehicle.
4. The vehicle is said to be one of 36 production prototypes in determining the design and final production version for the 1983S model to be debuted in 1983 in North America. Half of these prototypes for automatic transmission, while the other half were 5-speed manual.
This is a 5 speed manual, making it one of 18 vehicles.
All work and service on the vehicle was done by Whaley brothers, until the vehicle was taken to Arizona where Porsche race driver, Frank Beck, took over all servicing.
Custom JL Audio (Tier 1 Brand) Sound System with Alpine Deck, JL Audio 10" Subwoofer, 4 JL Audio ZR300 Speakers (custom installation)
Clutch was replaced with an upgraded Torque clutch recommended for enhanced performance by Porsche at a cost of approximately$5,000.
The odometer brindle is not working. We noticed this after the first summer in AZ. Porsche says this piece is plastic and this is a common problem, especially in hot climates considering the age of the car.
This car has always been trailered to the mechanic for repairs and tune ups. It was also trailered to Denver, Colorado when moved there. Since then, the car has been garaged, starting it once per month, running the engine for 10 minutes and turning her off again.
Since the brindle stopped working, it is estimated that less than 1,000 miles were put on the vehicle.
To take pictures, she started right away to roll into the drive way.The vehicle is currently in Pueblo County, Colorado. Please contact me for further shipping details before purchase.
This is a general overview of the vehicle, but I have more details available if you contact me.Full service records, title, and registration available.Protected and always garaged.
Thank you for your interest.
