1981 Porsche 928 Base Additional Info:
Newly Restored 1981 Porsche 928 Base with 1,300 Miles since restoration.
Original Mileage is unknown, last working reading in the odometer was 199K. It was reset after restoration.
I bought the car over a year ago with the purpose of restoring it and keeping it. Unfortunately I don't have time to finish the minor details to make this car a dream car.
This is an amazing car and I really fell in love with it during the whole restoration process. It is a blast to drive and it begs to be driven for long hours. I just did a 1100 mile trip (hence the 1300 reading in the odometer) with it as a test drive and I could have gone another 1000 miles if I had more road and time in my hands. This is a true GT car of the era and this one is a great example you can have in your garage for years to come. I'm sorry I have to let it go but I rather see it with someone that want to finish it and give it a new home.
What has been done to the car:
Old paint was completely scrap and a new custom paint job was done. You won't find any other 928 with this color. The original color was baby blue. At some point the car was repainted doing a terrible job. That's why I decided to do a full paint job.
Car had minor damage to the rear right fender from the previous owner which was fixed completely.
The entire interior (original navy blue) were in terrible conditions. There wasn't a single piece without a crack. They were completely redone using only the original frames with new materials. Everything is in Graphite leather with the seat cushions in white suede. Front Seats have been covered with seat covers as to not damage any of the new parts. The combination is one of a kind as well.
New custom floor mats and carpets were manufactured also in graphite grey.
New Yokohama set of tires were also bought. Driven just over 1000 miles.
Engine and transmission were serviced and any broken or worn parts were replaced.
Custom paint job to the intake manifold was done as well.
Engine Electric Harness was completely rebuild from scratch using higher quality materials than the original.
New master cylinder from ATE because of failure of the old one.
Brake disk were services and has new brake pads.
All lights and lighting mechanisms were fixed and service. Lights are brand new and working.
Brand New battery was also installed.
Odometer was broken. Got the missing gears and it is working now.
When the car was bought it marked almost 200k Miles on it. The title already marked the mileage as exempt so I not sure how many miles there are actually in the car. After fixing the odometer I reset it to zero and currently marks just above 1300 Miles. All driven by me.
Tool kit is almost complete except for two pieces as seen in one of the photos.
Includes the original Car jack and handle also with the original bag.
I spent around $10.000 in the car during the whole process.
All in all an amazing car that can be used as a daily driver.
What's missing for a full restoration:
Sunroof works but needs some grease so that it runs smoothly again. Can be open and closed and both the engine and transmission in it work properly.
Electric Trunk opener was missing when originally bought. I wasn't able to find the piece myself. Trunk opens and closes perfectly with Key. Electric wiring testing shows that if you replace the piece the Trunk opener will work.
While the master cylinder was replaced because the car suffered from a squishy brake, after doing the replacement the car now suffers from a hard brake; this means a new brake booster is needed, it can be found here in eBay from ATE for $120. The car can be driven anywhere. I haven't done the replacement myself because of lack of time. It can be done a day with the proper tools.
Instrument cluster dials and warning light all work. A few issues that need to be address: When the dashboard was placed again, the tachometer stopped reading. It was working properly before. Oil pressure gauge marks above 5, this is because the Oil sensor on the bottom of the car need to be replaced. One of the connectors in the oil sensor is damaged. You can fix or replace it and the gauge will work properly. Speedometer marks about 10mph lower and actual speed. When the odometer was fixed the needle needed to be removed and when placed back again it end up been too low. That's why there is a speed difference.
Seat recliner button on the passenger side is broken. The seat is in a comfortable position and can be moved front and back, up and down.
Air conditioning works but needs new charge. A new adapter was added for easier refill.
Car ceiling needs to be properly attached to the car frame in the middle section. The frame is solid and in great shape just needs to be properly secure.
Ceiling Grab handles were removed just to improve a clean interior look, I have them and will be included with the car.
Trunk cover is currently been rebuild and will also be included in the sale.
All this work (sans brake booster) is minor can can be done in a day or less if you already have the missing items.
I'm trying to be as thorough as possible so that any potential buyers will know exactly what they are getting. I will happily answer any questions and provide additional pictures of the car.
