This 1989 Porsche 928 S4 has driven 108,9XX miles and it’s powered by a 5.0L DOHC V8 paired to a rare 5-speed G-28/13 transaxle from an ‘89 928 GT with a 40% locking limited slip differential and a 928 Motorsports Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel. The car was purchased by me about a year and a half ago and has been overhauled from ground up mechanically and is in tip top shape. For the past year and a half I have replaced all the vital components such as timing belt, all fuel lines, clutch, brakes, shocks, bearings, wheels & tires, battery, leather seats, etc. It has a clean NJ title in my name, with clean Carfax.
The body is as straight as an arrow; however the clearcoat started to peel on the fenders, bonnet, and the roof. Therefore the paint needs a refresh, or you can keep it in patina shape. However I think it will look magnificent with a fresh coat of paint. The original color is very rare Slate Gray Metallic (22D). This is the same color that Jeremy Clarkson drove in the Patagonia Special of Top Gear TV show. Body and chassis components have zero rust whatsoever.
Panamera 18-inch 10-spoke wheels were purchased almost brand new and wrapped in Hankook Ventus V12 tires. I have original wheels in great condition with good tread Toyo tires as well. New brake rotors and ceramic pads were added that produce no dust and stop the car really well with its S4 4-piston brake calipers. Shocks, adjustable shock collars, and rings were replaced with Sachs/Boge units. New tie rods were also installed, and the Porsche was professionally ride-height adjusted and aligned by Autobahn Automotive. Car rides great, just like it did back in 1989.
Radio delete head unit was removed and replaced with a storage compartment; Alpine unit is included with the sale. There are quite a bit of dash cracks present on the dash and pod, typical for the cars from that era. Seats were re-covered by a professional shop with brand new super plush white leather, one of the most comfortable seats I ever sat in. Rear hatch receiver stopper was also replaced.
The 5.0L DOHC V-8 engine received a new Gates timing belt, tensioner was rebuilt, new front main seal, oil pump seals, cam seals, new rubber hoses(coolant, air, etc.), new ZEREX coolant, new thermostat was added as well as all new serpentine belts. New Bosch fuel pump with new strainer was installed. Ground terminal cover was also installed after cleaning all ground connections. This was an automatic car, and I sourced all the parts for a manual conversion including a G28/13 transaxle from a ’89 928 GT car with a limited slip differential. This transformed the car to a new level of exhilaration and driver enjoyment. I am fully qualified to do this swap, due to many other similar manual swaps I have performed on BWM e30s, and a Toyota Supra.
This 928 is also equipped with new Aluminum Lightweight flywheel from 928 Motorsports and pressure plate which was professionally balanced as an assembly. New Sachs clutch, new rear main seal, new Torque Tube bearings, all new shifter bushings, and fresh Red Line MT-90 75W90 transaxle oil. The GT exhaust system is original stainless steel and uses factory catalytic converters with a factory air pump. New Bosch O2 sensor was also installed. This project is finished off with custom LED tail light bulbs for high visibility under braking.
I also have all the paperwork, receipts, owner’s manuals, and brochures related to this car since the beginning.
This Porsche 928 S4 is fully sorted mechanically, but needs some cosmetic work to be a perfect car, which is factored into the price. The transmission shifts smoothly and the engine revs extremely beautifully for a German V8. I restored and built this into a driver’s car at all levels. This is a German engineered, super smooth Autobahn cruise missile of a car. “Porsche, there is no substitute.”
I may be able to assist in shipping this vehicle at buyer’s expense. This car is also listed locally; I reserve the right to remove this listing at any time before a final sale.
