1968 Porsche 911 911L Additional Info:
Here's my 1968 911L out in the wild:This Porsche is a beloved family member that's been carefully garage kept since new. It's both a reliable driver and a near-show quality 1968 911L. The "L" was a 1-year only Porsche model and served as a replacement for the "S" which was non-compliant with U.S. emission regulations. The "L" was introduced as the top-line model featuring "S" suspension and brakes with the 130HP 2-liter flat 6 motor. There were only 449 "L" versions produced by Porsche.
I've documented our journey over the past couple years on my Instagram feed (<<CLICK>> to check out this #gold911L on instagram) including a Portland to LA 1200 mile coastal trip in June 2015 to get the car back to Los Angeles. The car ran perfectly over the 1200 miles and is in perfect mechanical condition with a heavenly exhaust note. the suspension bushings are all new and the car drives as if straight off the dealer lot.
My friends over at Petrolicious shot a wonderful film on the car and have a detailed description on their website.

One of the reasons I wanted to bring this car back to LA before selling her was to have my friends over at Petrolicious shoot this film documenting the car and it's history. It's an icon that is woven into 4 decades of the LA music scene. While I don't suspect it'll make the car more "valuable" it is something I felt needed to be documented for myself and for the next owner (you?)
Here's the VIDEO:
I'll list off some of the details for this car in quick fashion. If you are interested in this car please visit the micro-site dedicated to the documentation of this car at the Petrolicious site...there's really no need to replicate too much of it here but to highlights a few points:
- Originally purchased by Paul Rothchild who is best known as the 5th member of the 60's rock group "The Doors"
- The Porsche was "given" to David Anderle in 1970 while they both worked at Elektra Records in Hollywood
- David was a legendary record producer responsible for guiding the careers of dozens of artists including Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Brian Wilson and many others
- David Anderle gave the Porsche to me in 1995 while I was working for him at A&M Records (check out the video for all the fun details)
- Car restored through 2004-2005
- David was very meticulous and saved every receipt dating back to 1968. These will be passed onto the new owner
- Repainted car to a special-order Porsche color "Metallic Gold." The car came from the factory painted in a special-order color called "Metallic Green"
- Rare Recaro seats dealer installed in 1970 and are flawless
- US regulated side-markers removed during respray in 1977 because David thought them to be ugly
- No rust throughout always garage kept....nearly perfect condition with the exception of a few small paint chips from the recent 1200 mile west coast road trip
- Burns absolutely NO oil and NO leaks and compression test checks out as normal. Dorian at "DV-Mechanics" in Los Angeles (formerly of "Singer" Vehicle Design) performed a pre-sale inspection for anyone who might not have the opportunity to have the car examined prior to purchase. The car checks out as an exceptional example straight and mechanically sound classic SWB 911.
- Everything functions perfectly (clock/gauges/lights)
Original black 5.5" Fuchs wheels. All perfect condition and restored back to new condition
- All chrome restored to new condition
- We kept a few original elements during the restoration including this sticker as well as most of the dash and gauges (that are in great original condition)
- Original complete tool kit
- The only work to do on the car (if you choose) would be to replace the window channel felts as the windows are a bit "sticky" on rolling up/down.
- Porsche Certificate of Authenticity proving original drivetrain and it's "L" originality (see link to Flickr album below for additional documentation)
- AM/FM radio currently in the vehicle was an "upgrade" installation by David Anderle in 1975. We replaced the speakers in 2005 and the system works slightly better than a new 1975 stereo would work.
- The engine compartment has been left in unrestored original condition. You will NOT need to do any actual mechanical work should you wish to make this your daily driver tomorrow. It's good to go across country should the new owner wish to road trip back home from LA.
- The car is currently registered in Oregon but, as you can see, we have the original California Black Plates which will be given to the next owner
- This car was featured in the July 2016 issue of "Speedster" magazine (French Porsche Enthusiast Mag) and here's a couple images from the feature featuring images from a @VincePerraud photo session.

- You can read the entire article on my Flickr account album which is dedicated to documenting this car. There's lots of great shots of the car as well as photos of the previous owners (David Anderle and Paul Rothschild) with Jim Morrison, The Cure, Rita Coolidge, Kris Kristofferson and Brian Wilson.

I believe i have a reserve that is in-line with recent sales of "L" examples and the condition of this particular car. I'm really notassigningany additional "value" to the car's story. I'm assuming the story is just something cool about this car that I'm hoping gets embraced, preserved and built upon by the next owner!
Good luck bidding and I'm happy to answer any questions and/or give you a showing/inspection as requested. I urge you to take a look if possible as the car is very impressive in person.
The car is garaged in Hollywood, CA.
