1968 Porsche 911 Additional Info:
You are bidding on one of the most special CustomVW Busses ever made.
This vehicle was not designed to be a show queen or slow lane cruiser, but rather a 110 mph, 250 hp, Canyon Carving Monster. Sure it has the classic stylings of the Southern California Car Scene, however with every look, you pick up the true nature of this vehicle.
Built for pure performance and handling, one of the most noticeable features was the addition of Porsche 911 Rack and Pinion Steering. When chasing down apex's, the last thing you need is 3 inches of travel in your steering wheel. There is nothing like cruising a VW Bus down the freeway with one hand on the wheel at 90 mph. The next modification was the installation of multiple Anti Roll Bars. We combined 2 front Roll Bars with 1 rear to give the VW Bus everything it needed to plant and stick. We used a combo of Porsche 964 and Modified Super Beetle Anti Roll Bars. The VW Bus has been lowered/corner balanced all around, with the front end set up at perfect ride height with drivers weight. We have also added a Bump Steer Eliminating Bar to lower the tie rod angle and make it parallel to the ground. With Bilstein Sport Shocks installed at each corner, it only increased that Racing Feel.
The next factor to conquer, was properly stopping this beast. We accomplished this by installing a Power Assisted Brake Booster System combined with 4 piston 944 Turbo Calipers all the way around. We wrapped the brakes with 16 inch Porsche Boxster Wheels, shrouded by a low profile tire, width size of 205 front and 225 rear.
When it came to choosing a power plant, classic Air Cooled Porsche was the only way to go. For Horse Power output, Low Weight and an Easy Maintenance Schedule, the obvious choice was a 1989 Carrera 3.2 liter. Since this vehicle was designed to be a daily driver, a Motronic Fuel Injection System met all of our needs. We also, woke up the engine by adding a Stainless Matched SSI Header Exhaust, dampered by a Dansk Stainless Performance Muffler. You've never heard a VW Bus sound like this. We designed this vehicle to have modern day conveniences, so the fuel tank has a complete closed system, charcoal canister vented with a 911 filler neck utilized. No more walking into the garage and having that choking gasoline smell of a classic car. There has been dual fuel filters installed, with one of them being the serviceable drag race style. The engine is a dry sump oil system, with the Carrera oil tank and filter installed in the engine compartment.
Getting the power to the ground, while still maintaining normal freeway cruising RPM's was achieved by install a 5 Speed Porsche 915 Transmission with updated helper spring clutch. Having 930 CV joints, this trans could handle the torque of an off the line launch, and with a 5th gear, can tach 3,000 RPM's doing 80 MPH. Lastly, nothing tells you that something might be lurking under the hood like the classic 911 Porsche 915 shifter in the cockpit.
Design of the interior and exterior had to coincide. We wanted a subtle classic VW look with custom touches of performance, convenience and style. The Driver and Passenger sit on Porsche 911 Seats, covered in Gray Tweed, with the original stitching pattern, developed in Stuttgart Germany. This same stitching pattern is carried onto the 3rd row and rear seats. Adding retractable Repa Porsche Shoulder Seat Belts was the only way to keep you locked in tight. There are also grab handles added to help hold on in turns. Retractable cup holders have been added throughout the vehicle, to make it keep up with our everyday needs. All panels in the VW have been sound deadened to keep out road noise and have that classic solid door closing feel. The flooring in the passenger compartment is a high grade industrial material, that is the same found inside IMSA Porsche Trailers. Function and beauty. Last but not least, there is nothing that says Porsche more, than to look down at a Set of Genuine Porsche VDO 911 Gauges.
We wanted to continue the same classic feel to the Exterior. Choosing an original VW Paint Color was key and went with the classic 12622 VW Pale Blue. A stunning color in person, that pops with the Silver wheels and Tweed interior. We wanted to make the vehicle lighter and more streamline and removed all luvered rear windows and had custom tempered one piece windows made. The lights have been modified to front LED turn signals, with clear custom corners. The rear lights have updated bulb holders installed, so you never have to mess with lights going out. All trim was removed and holes welded, with the only the classic Volkswagen sign left to stand out. Nothing cheesy only classy. Restored 15 years ago, it has seen the road and driven daily.
There are so many modifications and improvements done throughout the years, that is hard to list them all. This is what one would classify as a true resto-mod, only the car was made 10 years before the term existed. This VW was created by a Porsche Racing and Fabrication Shop, one that has Won multiple Porsche Racing Championships, taken home Concours Trophies and have Created Cars for the Elite in the Industry. This was our passion of love, this Bus was our life. Our next Project will be a $500k version of this bus. This VW has reached the pinnacle and it's time for new blood. 600 Hp of new blood to be exact.
This is not your standard VW Bus with a Porsche engine, we have owners of 908 Ferraris, M5 BMW's and Porsche 911's that can attest, having been taken down by the legendary VW Bus. Tons of stories, tons of pictures, tons of modifications. Good luck and treat her right.
