I ordered a properly fitted, hand-made leather steering wheel cover kit and shifter boot that I never installed that are included in the sale (not pictured).
I have more photos including exterior and underbody. Please ask, and I’ll email them.
I have receipts back to approximately the early 90’s from the last owner, including some oil changes. I have no way of knowing if they’re a complete record, but I’ve got all the receipts from the work since I’ve had it.
Some of the notable receipted work from previous owner:
- Alternator (2009)
- Oil pan replaced. The oil pan has cooling fins, and the drain plug, which I’ve replaced, appears to be the type from a later model. The 2006 receipt for this work states, “NEEDS OIL PAN”. When I looked for a new drain plug based on year and model, the plug defaulted to an Allen-type large diameter plug.
- Paint and body work on undated receipt
Please remember that this is a 38-year-old vehicle
Odometer is frozen at 66300, but all the gauges and the clock work
I’d call the color grey, and it was sprayed over the original lovely silver that’s still visible in the door jambs and underhood. There may have been another spray before its current color, but I can’t tell for sure.
This car was delivered and has stayed in Western New York since new. Previous owners include a plastic surgeon and restaurateur/White House chef whose names appear in the original owner’s manual. The previous owner and her late husband had owned the car since at least the early ‘90s.
The car drives pretty well, especially considering its age. Steering is responsive and surprisingly light at speed. The engine doesn’t leak oil on my garage floor or smoke. I took a pic of the floor where the car sits to show that, which I can email. (The drips that are there are dried ski wax.) The engine needs about five to ten minutes of idling after initial startup before it can be driven smoothly. It idles roughly at first. After the engine is warm, it starts and idles well, but the same thing applies if it’s sat for a while after driving somewhere. This may be a cold/hot start sensor. There is a little slop in the drivetrain, more so in 4th if I lug the engine a bit. The clutch doesn’t slip, though.
The sheet metal appears mostly clean and straight, as is the underside of the car, save the underside surface rust. There is a bubble/rust spot on the driver’s side door edge, and there was some body work on the kick panel under the driver’s door (there is a receipt for the work). The pinch seam on that side has been a bit crushed due to a previous owner’s poorly-placed jack. There are some minor waves where the roofline meets the windshield trim.
The car has somewhat ineffective aftermarket side-view mirrors installed by a previous owner. I’ve tried to find original mirrors with little luck. I believe that these aftermarket mirrors compliment the look more so than the rectangles, anyway.
The clear coat could use a good buff or clay bar and has some run spots. There are several scratches in the hood that have started to flake and rust a bit, which is pictured. I’ll contact the shop where it was painted to see if I can get the same color paint.
The car has AC, but the compressor belt was removed previously. I don’t know if the system works, but I have no doubt that it would need a recharge and seals. The console air controls are missing a slider switch, and I don’t know if the heater works.
The sunroof leaks when I wash the car and probably needs a new seal. I have the rear fuel filter but have not gotten the nerve to change it out. The rear hatch shocks need to be replaced and don’t hold the hatch. I can’t seem to unlock/lock the driver’s side door with the key or button. The key occasionally is tricky to turn in the ignition cylinder, but that’s rare.
The alternator needs a bushing set to get it in perfect plane, and I’m trying to get that done, along with the rear fuel filter, before sale, but I can’t promise it.
The dash is well-cracked, and the passenger seat has a separation. The door cards are in decent shape with some wear. The back of the driver’s seat has a tear, and the rear seats have lifted near the tunnel. The passenger seat-back release doesn’t work. The carpet is in pretty good shape and appears original.
Someone disconnected the EGR system.
I don’t smoke, and the car doesn’t smell like smoke.
The interior has the scent that an old Porsche should.
I rescued this car from its existential crisis. When I bought it, it had a hair-scrunchy on the shifter, flower (!) floormats, and a sunglass holder suction-cupped to the windshield. I’ve given it a healthy dose of maintenance.
The car sits very well and has nice presence and a good sound and deserves good treatment.
I’ve done my best to represent the car accurately, but the description is not exhaustive. If you have any questions or need clarification on something, please ask. If a prospective buyer would like the car inspected at his or her expense by a mutually agreeable mechanic in the Buffalo, NY area, I am happy to accommodate. The car is for sale as-is with no warranty or guarantees.
Buyer is responsible for shipping or arranging pickup with seller. I'm happy to meet at DMV or a police station or whereverthe buyer is comfy.
This car will sell. True auction starting at $1.
