1984 Porsche 944 Additional Info:
Up for auction is a 1984 Porsche 944 European model VIN# wp0zzz94zen401559 built for the French Dealers Market but was sold locally in Stuttgart, Germany after the French dealers group decided they still had too much inventory and cancelled their final shipment of 944's for the 1984 model year. This group of 100 cars was left in Stuttgart and they were divided between training purposes, parts and a few were sold in the local Stuttgart market. This particular vehicle was purchased in Germany by a U.S. Army officer who upon completion of his tour of duty in Germany returned stateside and had the car shipped over to the U.S. Being in the military, the vehicle was "rubber stamped" into the country without being modified to meet Federal Regulations. I.E. - speedometer is in kilometers per hour, European lighting ( lack of ugly side marker lights ) but it does have turn signal repeaters sunk into the sides of front fenders, small European bumpers, Obvious lack ofFederalemissionsequipment, This is fantastic since it is even easier to work on and is clearly more powerful than it's American counterpart! The car ended up in Illinois and a proper Illinois title was obtained (Germantitle is still in mypossession since Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles would notrecognizeit because they could not read it! ) Over the last ten years of my stewardship with this wonderful automobile, I have changed, the timing belt, water pump, tensioners rollers and did a front engine reseal. As a Porsche Club of America member I also added many things to enhance the car including Autopower 1/2 rollcage painted body color, Recaro SRD race seats, Schroth racing harnesses, Momo steering wheel, Kokeln short shifter, BBS RS wheels (three piece) Yokohama high performance summer tires. Bodymodifications include early turbo hood with NACA duct, late model turbo rear under bumper spoiler. Alpine AM/FM/CD player with Ipod interface.
The car is a good driver and clearly still turns a lot of heads, so if you are in search of a truly unique exotic automobile do not miss out on a chance to own this one!!! I bet you wont be able to find another one like this with out going to Germany! This being said, it does have some of the usual 944 issues - cracked dash - not too bad - has been covered since I purchased the car, I have never tracked the car outside of track touring during PCA events! all the add ons are bolt-on and are easilyreversible if you desire to change it or restore it to original.
Please note that I have the original hood, and many, many other parts that I provide to the winner of the auction along with a choice of wheel/tire combos depending on sale price or if you buy it now!!
The car is located in Northern Illinois, and would need to be picked up within a week from auction end. A truck and trailer are recommended due to extra parts that are going along with the car!
A $500.00 dollar deposit is required with in 24 hours of auction end. Balance must be paid in cash prior to release of vehicle and title!
