1959 was a phenomenal year for Pontiac!
The legendary 389 V-8 made it’s debut this year and would later appear in the all new muscle car from Pontiac the GTO. The wide track design was also introduced this year and would lead Pontiac design for decades. Pontiac was also selected as Motor Trend magazine “Car of the Year” for 1959. Pontiac was fourth in sales industry wide for 1959 with 383,320 sold. Pontiac also won the the Daytona 500, Pikes Peak hill climb, and the Darlington 500 this year. The National Hot Rod Association top eliminator title also went to Pontiac when the 389 posted a 0-60 time of 8.8 seconds and did a quarter mile in 16.9 seconds.
This particular Custom Star Chief 2 door sport sedan is one of the finest original unrestored cars imaginable. With only 35,000 miles from new it remains absolutely unmolested pristine original. It features the all new 389 V-8 with 280 horsepower and the hydramatic transmission. It has a 124 inch wheelbase and 10,254 were produced with the new base price being $ 2,934.00.
Although the Jade Mist Green Poly exterior finish is mostly original there has been some touch up which is indiscernible and the finish shows beautifully
The chrome, stainless and aluminum trim is all original and excellent.
The interior is unique in its design and in excellent original condition with only a small cracked spot on the left side panel and a tiny worn spot on the drivers armrest. There is some staining to the carpet from the insulation padding underneath. None of this aging detracts from the overall stunning apperance. The dash and instruments are perfect in condition and sensational in design.
Under the trunk you will find the original spare tire, jack and lug wrench along with the original mat all in excellent condition.
The engine compartment is unmolested and as you would expect to find on a low mileage car fitted with only original componets.
The dealer license plate frame original to the car is still present advertising Walt’s Pontiac.
The owners manual and showroom brochure are with the car as well as a 1959 Motor Trend magazine featuring it as “Car of the Year”.
The Star Chief runs and drives great and may be driven anywhere with confidence.
This is simply a well preserved original car in excellent condition with no negatives. it is unlikely that there is a better example. If you want a 1959 Pontiac this is one of the very best
