The Pontiac Firebird was introduced in 1967 shortly after the release of the Camaro, both cars being GM's answer to the Ford Mustang. And what an answer it was! Available in all sorts of configurations, the Firebird was an immediate success and by 1969 had made significant headway into "pony car" sales alongside the Camaro and Mustang.
The 1969 Convertible offered here is the last year of the first generation of Firebirds. It is equipped with a replacement 350 2 barrel engine (as original), a factory 4 speed. aftermarket A/C, power top and power steering. It has had a respray in its original Midnight Green metallic and still retains its 100% original green interior.
The body isextremely straight with no rust. The paint is excellent and shines like glass, although there is a stain on the hood and some chips around the edge of the trunk lid-see photos. The rest of the car's paint is excellent. The bumpers are freshly rechromed. The trim is in good shape, although the metal windshield top header rail has some corrosion. The floors, rockers and trunk are all solid as shown in the photos.
The top frame is complete and the power top works the way it should. There is currently no soft top installed on the frame. The top boot is brand new. The interior is completely original. Except for the driver's seat back, a cracked dash and some wear in the carpets, it is excellent and could (and should) be preserved.
The A/C needs acompressor and there is some electrical sorting that is needed. The right brake light stays on, so the brake light switch may needreplacing. Recently, a new alternator, battery and starter were installed.
The replacement (1969 350) engine runs beautifully and the carb was recently rebuilt. It is tight, smooth, quiet, and there is no smoke. It has a surprising amount ofpower for a 2 barrel.The clutch is smooth and the transmission shifts perfectly with no issues.There are new tires on rally wheels.
There is a standard spare and an original jack that come with the car.
This is a great opportunity for the buyer looking for a SUPER desirable classic convertible Firebird with a 4 speed at a very reasonable price. With some easy improvements one could be financially miles ahead of the game with this car.
