Vehicle Details

1979 Pontiac Trans Am W72/WS6 with a 400 4-speed and 3-wheel disc brakes. It is an original 400 4-speed car in solar gold with a camel tan deluxe vinyl interior. This car was purchased 17 years ago and was subjected to a full restoration 15 years ago. I do have the PHS report and the original build sheet which will come with the car.

It looks as amazing in person as it does in pictures and drives even better. To my knowledge, it has always been a southern car and it shows. All panels are original except for the decklid which was replaced due to rust under the spoiler.

Paint and Body: All panels were stripped down to bare metal during the restoration, block sanded until straight, painted, clear coated, wet sanded, and polished to an amazing shine. I would rate the paint as a 9.5 out of 10. There’s no orange peel. There is a small crack in each c-pillar near the side windows that I’ve tried to capture in the pictures. The wheels were polished during the restoration but still show the original powder coating.

Engine/drivetrain: The engine was rebuilt before I bought the car and runs great! I was told it was matching numbers; but I believe the numbers are under the paint. It runs out very well, starts on the first crank, and the carburetor is dialed in nicely. It is not the original carb, as it has an Edelbrock/Quadrajet 850 with an electric choke that is perfectly adjusted.

The engine has excellent oil pressure, runs cool, and the steering box and power steering pump were replaced a year ago. The rear main seal will leak a few drops on the garage floor and has since I purchased the car.

The transmission was replaced with a Richmond Gear Super T-10 4-speed 2 years ago. The clutch was also replaced at that time, and the flywheel was resurfaced. There’s absolutely no clutch chatter. The rear end gears are 3.23:1.

Interior: The front seats were recovered during the restoration, and foam was replaced in the driver’s side seat bottom. The rear seat covers are original. The dash is original and shows slight warpage but does not have any cracks. The door panels are original. The A/C was converted to 134A following the restoration and does blow cold but does not get as cold as newer cars. The radio/speakers do not work and the speedometer is out of a 1974 or earlier car and reads fast.

This car has been a pleasure on my 130 mile round trip commutes to work, and a buyer could fly in and drive it home with confidence. I will be present and available for loading and shipping.
