1955 Pontiac Star Chief Safari Wagon Additional Info:

A very rare 1955 Pontiac Safari for sale. Pontiac only made 3760 of these in 55, there's not many left, especially in this condition. This car was very well optioned from the factory including Power Steering, Power Brakes, Air Conditioning, Wonder Bar Radio, and Bumper protectors, front and back. Odometer shows 64833 miles, believed to be correct. Engine is the Strato-Streak 287 ci V8 mated to a 4 speed Hydramatic transmission, both original to the car, both operate as intended. The engine bay is very clean. The car was restored, before I bought it, as close to original as possible. I had the A/C compressor rebuilt in an effort to keep the car as original as I could. {Trust me, it would have been much cheaper to put in Vintage Air!} The condenser had to be replaced as the original was filled with rust. A small pin hole leak has developed, letting all the freon escape, so it will have to be fixed and recharged. The body is very straight and paint is in excellent condition overall, there are a couple of very small paint chips, as the car is driven to car shows on occasion. The front bench seat is six way adjustable and was recovered before my time, the rear was not. The headliner has a small hole, just above the drivers side sunshade, not visible with the shade up.I'm listing these three small defects to be as honest and transparent as I can. The only issues I'm aware of are, the A/C freon leak, the headliner and the rear seat cover and I've discounted the price to reflect that. The car was repainted to its original colors, Firegold and White Mist, before I bought it. There is a full size spare tire and jack in the tire well in the back.
All the chrome and stainless trim are in excellent condition. I do have the fender skirts, I took them off because I think it looks better without them. The radio is the Wonder Bar, I had it updated with Aurora Designs FMR-3 conversion module, it now has AM, FM and aux input; also replaced the dash speaker with a modern unit.
As you can see from the pics, the rockers look great, the underside is clean. Can take more pics if there's something ya wanna see. There are not many Safari’s for sale on the internet. Most of them have been restomoded, in one way or another, {which is cool ifthat’s what ya want, I like them too}, or are not in very good shape. This is the only one that I've seen recently that’s been kept as close to original as possible, and is in this kind of condition!
I encourage you, if you're interested, to come inspect the car or hire someone to come look. I'm located in Flatonia, TX off of I-10, halfway between Houston and San Antonio. I have been burnt, buying online, by not doing an inspection, so I speak from experience !! Well worth the couple of hundred bucks, in my opinion !! Will answer any questions that I can, noting that I'm not a mechanic. If the car sells outside the State of Texas, I wanna keep the license plates.Yes, the hood ornament light works!!Oh, and the cooler goes with the car!!Thanks for looking, Chuck
