1989 Pontiac Trans Am Additional Info:

For a single run in 1987, General Motors engineers produced and released 547 of the most legendary street cars in automotive history, the venerable Buick Grand National Experimental (GNX). Utilizing a specially modified Buick Turbo V6, this legendary beast managed to post 0-60 times that crushed those of modern performance cars of the era, including the Ferrari Testarossa and the Lamborghini Countach LP 500s!
That legendary engine was retired, never to be used again, until 1989, when Pontiac chose that historic engine to power the 1,555 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Ams made in this limited, one-year run. Both lighter and faster than the Buick GNX This little-knownproject produced, according to Car and Driver, the fastest production car of the 80s that, still, nearly no oneknows about!
You are looking at Turbo Trans Am #547.
That's right. This vehicle's serial number is also the number of Buick GNXs produced that lent theirheart and soul to the Turbo Trans Am, making this the "Tribute Trans Am" of the limited series, taking itsplace among the few sought after serial numbers, 1, 2, 3 (The Pace Cars) and 1,555 (The Final Serial #).
With the Indianapolis 500 Mecum Auction coming up in May, this may even be a chance to turn a tidy sum if you can get it on the sale list in time!

ALL KNOWN NOTABLE ISSUES OF CONCERN
Paint - I received a good paint job with good paint in the correct color, but the finishing job they did is not good. And it's still not good after they had to opportunity to correct it. So now I'm in a legal battle with them to recoup what I paid them, but the car remains in need of finishing and touchup of some mild overspray spots.
Hood and Front Quarter Panels - As a whole, the alignment of these pieces is slightly off. Alignment is off. This is, I believe 100% due to the fact that the jack points were both bent when I recived it. This was a VERY common malady for F-Bodies in that generaion and the common effect of a bent jack point is the bowing of the quarter panels. A common malady, but an easy fix in qualified hands. No frame pulls or anything to that extent necessary. The jack points were bent back "mostly" by the same paint shop that couldn't finish a paint job correctly, who also did this job poorly, causing the sheet metal at the connection points where plastic tabs secure the plastic wheel well protective cover to be misshapen by the force of the misaligned panel. They will need to be fully straightened to realign the panel, and the area cleaned up and rust-preventative added
Hood - The underside of the hood will need to be painted to match the new paint job. I left it to be painted last, when I was certain I was completely finished with everything else.
A/C System - The air conditioning compressor started to rattle recently. The A/C was restored earlier this year, wworks GREAT and blows COLD. You'll want to check the A/C compressor.
Interior Trim - There is an temporary ABS headliner board in the corrct color currently installed that fits poorly and looks good-ish, but needs to be replaced with the original 3rd Gen F-Body T-Top board (which I have and which will be included with the sale) that still needs to restored and upholstered with the correct-coloreheadliner cloth (which I have and which will be included with the sale)
ALL KNOWN ISSUES REMAINING TO ADDRESS TO BE 100% RESTORED
Factory Radio - The far right equalizer slider button's tip does not illuminate like the others
Deck Lid - Needs to be adjusted forward by about 1/2"

A/C System - The air conditioning compressor started to rattle recently. The A/C works GREAT. The noise is new.
Interior Trim - The plastic hinge for the trunk's storage compartment shows whitening from years of opening/closing stress
Hood - The underside of the hood will need to be painted to match the new paint job. It was left undone by the painters I'm currently preparing to battle in court.
