1956 Pontiac Safari
One of 302 that remain. For those of you who are less familiar with the Safari, it its Pontiac's version of the Chevy Nomad. Its roofis nearly identical and shares most of the same parts. Its tailgate is also identical to that of the 1956 Nomad with the only difference being headbanging.
This particular car was manufactured in Kansas City. It was factory equipped with:
Hydra-matic transmission
Leather seats (latex foam)
Under seat heater and defroster
E-Z eye glass
6 way manual control front seats
Air-conditioning.
I purchased this vehicle in early 2005. It was originally a North Dakota car. Since then it has set in the arid Colorado climate. I have the original title and bill of sale from that transfer. The car is not currently running. It will need a total restore.
The rocker braces and front floor will need to be replaced. (There appears to be a whole new set of rockers in the back) The frame is solid. It has some glass cracked, it’s missing various pieces of trim and the hood ornament. While the care was originally equipped with air conditioning and still has the ocular vents and dash controls, the air-conditioning mechanism itself has been removed. It was factory painted Sandalwood Tan/Sun beige but some point it was repainted. Odometer reports 71,000 miles but I can’t contest to the actual mileage.
Various extra parts come with the car including the radio. Note: in the pictures that the back seat is folded down to store these extra parts.
I’ve included many detailed pictures of the car. Please use them for reference on its condition. Please contact me for any additional questions.
