What we have here is a very nice 1973 Pontiac Formula. According to it's Vin#, the car is a true Formula and was equipped with the standard 350 ci V-8. The car is now badged as a 400 and has a 400 cu in block.
According to the engine decode sites, the WC stamping on the front of the block in 73 was a 350. However, the block does have a casting number of 400 on it. We have included pictures of a head number, date code, and whatever else we found. So, if it is actually a 400 block, the WC was it's code in 1978. We are just assuming that someone installed a later date 400 block. The owner said it looks like new or at least recently rebuilt.
The data tag does show it to be an original orange car, but it also has the W66 code which I believe is a Formula code.
Features Include:
400 cu in V-8
3 Speed Automatic Transmission w/ B&M Shifter
Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Power Brakes
Duel Exhausts
Ram Air Hood
Clear Current Texas Title
You may notice the belts and some other a/c parts missing in our photos, but the entire system has been rebuilt in the last week with Vintage Air new parts. It is now an entirely new system and is 134A. We inserted 2 new phots showing the new belts and hoses. The system is blowing cold and working great.
The car runs great. I personally rode in the car when filming, and it's a very solid car, with no rattles or noises. There is no smoke and when moved out of it's spot in the owners garage, there were no leaks.
The paint is excellent on this car. Whoever did the paint did a great job. You have to really search to find any signs that it was once orange. The current owner noticed the tell tale signs of cracking on the nose piece when he bought it. Having owned these cars before, he knew it was an ongoing issue so he had his shop reinforce the inner part of the nose to make it more rigid. It's been repainted and looks great now. There should be no further cracking.
There have been a few modifications to this car. The original air breather has been changed. The wheels are aftermarket and are more of a honeycomb style. I believe the 73 Formulas came with Rally Wheels.
You will see in the undercarriage shots, that there is no rust that we can see. The car looks really good underneath.
I am sure I have missed something, but our photos cover all of the car. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Maris at 214-616-2317
