1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible Matching #'s 389 Tri Power 4 Speed Additional Info:

1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible, Matching Numbers 389 Cubic Inch V8 Engine, Dealer Installed Tri-Power (3 x 2 Barrel Carburetors) setup, Dual Exhaust, 4 Speed Manual Transmission with Hurst Shifter, Power Steering, Silvermist Gray with Black Convertible Top, Code 218 Medium Red Interior, Bucket Seats and Center Console, Power Convertible Top, Wood Steering Wheel, Ride and Handling Package, Redline Tires with Spinner Wheel Covers, Detailed Engine Compartment, New Top and Interior, Three owners over the past 37 Years, The Pontiac GTO first appeared as a “performance options package” for the Pontiac LeMans in 1964. In 1966, the GTO became its own model. The GTO is widely credited as being one of the first true factory muscle cars. The GTO was the brain child of world famous manager and designer, John Delorean. The GTO name was “borrowed” from the Ferrari 250 GTO. Italian for “Gran Turismo Omologato,” which translates to “officially certified for racing in the grand tourer class”. Too avoid conflict GM executives said that the Pontiac GTO stood for “Grand Tempest Option.” One of the most definitive American performance cars of the decade. The car has a beefed up suspension w/ stiffer springs and shocks & anti-roll bar. Vintage Air aftermarket AC. Silvermist Grey (D) paint is in very good condition. The car has the infamous split Grill, which became a Pontiac trademark. The body style is known as “Coke bottle” due to the shapes. Very good gaps & lines and & fit. The paint is professionally applied over good sheet metal. The trunk appears to be original sheet metal. The hood scoops have chrome bezels / trim on the open ends. The chrome number wraps around the ends of the fenders and has a wide-open slit down the center to provide max airflow. It has a upward small humping in the middle that is wrapped in three or four layers of trim that surrounds a linear lined open grill, that appears blacked out, but it is just painted on the top and the bottom side of the louvers. 389 big block, high-lift camshaft and 421-style cylinder heads. “Original tin Factory Tags” on the carburetors. You see these on maybe 1 in 250 Carburetors.” Motor Trend magazine” recorded the 325 bhp model at 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds, quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. Very impressive Top speed of 115 mph. The Tri-Power car, which this one is, was even faster, with 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and a quarter mile at 14.8 seconds and topped out about 121 mph. Between the vice president, myself and our mechanics we have seen a “lot” of GTO‘s and this is one of the most correct engine and components we have seen. Even the thermostat housing is stamped. Factory chrome valve covers & breathers. Correct linkage on the Rear carburetors, the front is not hooked up to save a little $ on Gas. And the car is plenty fast with just two of the carburetors hooked up. The third carburetor can be linked in with the other two are fairly easily. Original style thick cork valve cover gaskets vs. rubber. 4 spoke wide HD power steering pulley for a heavy duty belt. I’ve seen the PS shaft and pulley bend from the tremendous torque @ the crank shaft end. Heavy steel blade fan. The heads have correct cast numbers. Vacuum Advance/ points distributor, brand new cap, 7mm and plugs. Hurst shifter and either the Muncie wide-ratio M20 or close ratio M21 4-speed transmission. Interior- The dash features four large gauges with speedometer, fuel temp, oil pressure & Tack. Beautiful mock wood grain, charging lamps and either a rally clock or a 7,000 rpm tachometer. Stunning red interior with all the correct trim and badges. Beautiful door panels, door handles and cranks. New door & body rubber and gaskets, even the vent window rubber. Immaculate red carpet. The console is an amazingly long piece of chrome finely worked that extends partially into the backseat with a courtesy light and a ashtray. Factory wheels with “mock” knock off spinners.
