1984 Pontiac Fiero Pace Car Additional Info:
Survivor, daily driver. True Y82 (Indy Pace Car Edition #1344 of 2000) with all of the Indy badges (nose, fenders, steering wheel). Low miles (~67K miles).
Box “A” title (clean title, no issues, actual miles). All original (except upgraded Pontiac AM/FM/CD/EQ).
Runs, drives, licensed, driven in-town and on the highway (picture 6 was taken at 75 MPH). Runs nicely and shifts smoothly (new clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, and new clutch pedal). Runs at nominal operating temperature and the cooling fan works as it should. I get about 24 MPG all-around.
New tires, brakes, wheel bearings, radiator, hoses, and other maintenance and tune-up items.
Detailed description of the car’s condition:• Car starts without having to mess with the gas pedal at all. The car idles higher (>1500 RPM) when cold (as it should), then idles at about 800-900 RPM after a few minutes.• The clutch pedal safety switch operates as is should (requires clutch pedal to be pushed to the floor to start the car).• The brakes work just like they should. They do not pull to either side. No noises, no brake fluid leaks. The emergency brakes works very well.• Cooling system works correctly, including the electric fan, no issues at all.• Retractable headlights work perfectly (go up when you turn on the headlights, go down when you turn off the headlights). Have operated flawlessly since motors were rebuilt. I use them all of the time. Has original headlight motor relays and wiring.• All lights work as they should (headlights, high/low beams, tail lights, brake lights, parking lights, dome lights, map lights, side marker lights, turn signals, reverse lights, trunk light, dash lights, radio lights, ash tray lights, HVAC lights). The dash light dimmer works like it should, turning the dome lights on when the dimmer is rotated all the way up.• Alarms all work as they should. The key-in-the ignition alarm works, the headlights-are-on-when-the-car-is-off alarm works, the emergency brake alarm works, the shift light works (and honestly is a bit annoying), and the door ajar light works. No lights or alarms stay on when they are not supposed to be on.• Power windows work, but are slow.• Power mirrors work in all directions.• Power trunk release works (when the key is on, as it should).• Power door locks work, but require a few pushes of the button to move to the locked or unlocked positions.• Rear window defogger switch illuminates when turned on, glass elements heat up, and turns off afterward – just like it should.• Heater works, heater fan works at all fan speeds.• Has A/C but is not hooked up. I have not checked any of the A/C system.• Windshield wipers work, and so does the windshield washer motor.• Cruise control operates flawlessly (turns off by pressing either the clutch pedal or the brake pedal, as it should).• Tilt wheel column is tight, not loose or sloppy.• Upgraded stereo to Pontiac AM/FM/CD/EQ, works as it should (including the CD), has matching red lights (a Pontiac thing), and speakers work (in-dash and in seat headrests). No modifications to the dash for the upgraded stereo, retains original wiring harness/connectors (in case the next owner wants to go back to original).• Speedometer, odometer, tripometer, tachometer, voltage, and temperature gauges work as they should. Fuel gauge is pegged full, most likely a bad sending unit.• The red carpet and red floor mats are in great shape.• The red velour seat insets clearly show the embossed Indy 500 logo and are in great shape.• The driver’s seat has wear at the bolster in the leather portion of the seat back.• Sunroof whistles a bit so probably needs a new seal.• Headliner is intact, but worn and stained – same for sun visors.• Door panels are nice. No aftermarket speaker holes.• Dash pad has the typical cracks.• Paint has flaws and some areas are chalky, but overall the car is very presentable.• Windshield has a rock chip.
When I bought the Indy, it had sat for about the 10 previous years due to the owner having issues bleeding the clutch hydraulics. It sat in my garage for another 6 years before I flushed fluids, replaced the clutch hydraulic system, and did the required maintenance to bring the Indy back to life. I have driven the Indy to work on several nice-weather days last fall, winter, spring, and now this fall.
