1978 Pontiac Firebird Additional Info:
1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula One Owner From New Only 39,220 Actual Miles Original Window Sticker, Sales Receipt, Manuals Original Paint & Interior SURVIVOR VIN: 2U87L8L179693 Engine: 5.7L 350ci 4BBL V8 Paint: Mayan Red (75) Trim: Black Lombardy Cloth (Velour) (19B) We purchased this fantastic ‘78 Firebird Formula from a gentleman in Indiana, the original owner. He had actually gotten this car off the showroom floor as a high school graduation gift, and somehow managed to keep it in mint, original condition through all these years. The car has been adored and beautifully maintained by by its sole owner and as it sits now, is in need of nothing. Road-trip ready straightaway, and a seriously clean head-turner. Exterior: Please take a look through the photos and video, as the car is shown in detail. Really, really impressive condition. There are a handful of stone chips on the lower body, a couple little spots of touch-up, and a ding on the passenger’s side of the hood—all consistent with 39k miles of road use. Paint is confirmed as original and looks absolutely stunning; elcometer readings show 1.8-2.5 mils all around. In the photos you will note some patina on the rear bumper and spoiler, which just adds to the survivor nature of the car. Doors open and close nice and smooth, no slamming. Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free, and the windows roll up and down nice and smooth. T-tops are mint and will come with both factory carrying bags. Wheels show some chipping in the paint, as they have never been refinished, and the polished trim rings are free of any curb rash or damage. Polished trim looks excellent throughout, no pitting or oxidation. Indy 500 white lettered tires are in great shape, no dry cracking or significant wear, but the DOT number indicates they are twelve years old. Interior: Interior is in excellent shape. Again, please defer to the photos and video. Black velour seats have never been reupholstered and are free of any punctures, scuffs, or damage. Outer bolsters look great. Rear seats look to have seldom been sat in. Truly very impressive throughout. Even the carpet remains original and, aside from a small tear just ahead of the driver’s seat, is still plush and has a nice deep black color. Original floor mats will come with the car as well and are in great shape. Dash top is free of any cracks, just a couple little spots of adhesive in the center from a phone mount or GPS. Wooden dash face is free of hairline cracks or visible age. Gauges are clear and all are functional and accurate, including odometer reading of 39,220 miles. Fan/heat are good, air conditioning remains on R12 refrigerant and is not functional. Pioneer radio is functional and sounds great, Pioneer amp is installed in the trunk. The original radio will not come with the car. Console looks good, not scratched-up or anything. There are a couple hairline cracks around the screws by the gear lever, as well as a crack in the vinyl cover of the center console, where the driver would rest their arm. Underbody/Under the Hood: Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Underbody looks really good. No through rust whatsoever. Little bits of surface rust on exhaust components, nothing else. This car was undercoated when new and has been garage-kept ever since. Underbody was recently de-greased and sprayed/tidied-up, and we would be happy to provide before photos if interested. Rock solid. This car runs and drives extremely well. Ready to jump in and enjoy straightaway. The car fires right up, idles cool/quiet/steady, pulls hard through the gears with no hesitation or stuttering whatsoever, shifts smoothly and on-time with no clunkiness, tracks straight down the road, brakes straight and effectively, steering is nice and direct with no play or whine, and the car is very smooth – no cowl shake, rattles, or other tendencies of concern. This car drives every bit as well as you would hope from a well-kept 39k-mile survivor.
