1968 Pontiac Le Mans Additional Info:

First off this is a solid project car that I'm listing for a friend who is downsizing his collection.
This 1968 Lemans HO 350 4 speed convertible is one of only 176 built by Pontiac in '68 and it was a local NC one family owned car until recently. This car is perfect candidate for a restoration or build it as a resto-mod, the choice is yours.
By 1968 the GTO was known as a fierce street race car. There was even a short lived ad campaign that is now somewhat famous among GTO fans, it simply had a picture of a Vedoro Green 68 GTO sitting by a street sign in Detroit pointing toward Woodward Avenue, a place well know by local street racers. After GM execs figured out the meaning of the ad they quickly killed it. The Lemans 350 HO was built to fly under the radar of the insurance companies since rates for insuring performance cars were sky rocketing. The 350 HO was rated at 320HP and had a 4 bbl carb w/dual exhaust.
The original owner wanted to order a sleeper dragstrip/street race car so he checked off specific options such as the 350 HO, 4 speed, 3:36 gears, manual steering, & manual drum brakes. After the local dealer was less than helpful he went to Boomershine Pontiac, the famed Pontiac performance dealership in Atlanta, GA where they were glad to order just what he wanted. The car passed from father to son & after several decades of driving enjoyment a restoration was started but then it stalled. Several health setbacks brought the family to the decision to let the 350 HO Lemans go. When my friend got the car it was in boxes but it has since been rough assembled so it can be transported a little bit easier. As with many project cars, some of the parts have gone missing from being in storage for so many years.
The original "born with" WR coded #'s matching engine is included and has the casting # 18 HO heads. It was claimed to be running when the restoration started however from setting over the years it is stuck & does not turn over. I would expect it will need to be rebuilt. The carburetor is missing. The original WG coded 3:36 open rear end is still with the car however there is no transmission, shifter or crossmember. The frame is solid and rust free but the front frame horns where the bumper brackets bolt to will need to be pulled by a frame shop as they are both bent towards the passenger side by about an inch. This is an easy job for a shop with the proper equipment.
The original colors are Vedoro Green, black top with black bucket seat interior. While in poor shape it still wears the original paint on the majority of the body and no previous major collision damage can be seen. The trunk pan, rear inner fenders, lower cowl area and rockers are all solid & rust free. The drivers side floor pan is good but the passenger side will need repairs due to minor rust. The quarters are original sheet metal and both have been repaired at the lower section behind the rear tires. Both doors and front fenders are repairable with minor rust and damage. The right front fender is the only non-original body part on the car. The side glass is good, they all roll up & down fine, the rear glass window is good but the windshield is missing. All the windshield trim is on the car. The seats are sound but will need to be recovered. The door panels are all there but in poor condition. All of the stainless trim & the Lemans emblems are on the door panels. The top frame is in good shape, it opens & closes manually. The hoses have been cut at the top pump. All of the parts pictured next to the car are what is included.
EDIT NOTE:
Just to clarify, ALL of the parts pictured beside the car come with it.
In the engine picture, ONLY the complete engine pictured comes with the car, NOT any of the other items in the background of the engine picture. There is no carb on the engine.
Overall this is a great car to restore, it's definitely a unique & interesting car in Pontiac's performance history! If you have the time & talent to restore it you won't regret it! Clean and clear North Carolina title is ready to be signed over to the new owner.
