Up for your consideration is my Numbers Matching 1980 Macho Turbo Trans Am. PHS documented, original build sheet present, and Dennis Mecham certified as a genuine DKM Macho vehicle - being theLAST Macho Trans Am that DKM did. This car is also the model car used by Phoenix Graphix to show their 1980 Macho Turbo graphics. Super cool and fun to drive.
I purchased this car in Feb 2009 from a gentleman in Mesa AZwith 77,000 miles showing on the odometer. It now shows 81,009. I replaced the headliner, visors, arm rests (NOS), door panels, head lights, front grills (not dry rotted!), break calipers, window felts and trim, and crank handles. The car came to me with the very cool Hurst Lightning Rod Shifter you see, and after market C&C T-Tops. Dennis could not confirm if DKM delivered the car with the C&C tops but did say that if the customer had wanted that it was something they would have sent out to be done. I tracked down missing trim pieces to the T-Tops and acquired another complete pair of tops with the often missing latch covers. I also have spare weather stripping unique to these tops. All come with the car.
I lateracquired the rareMecham license plate holder and an ultra rare DKM jacket XL! Both come with the car. Dennis supplied me with a correct set of decals for when the time comes to repaint and a blankbadge to correctly call out the car as 1980 - 006. This car has the correct originalMETAL horn button. Most out there are replacement plastic versions. Car has the Mecham added screen where the turbo indicator on the hood would have been for added air flow.A genuine Hooker Roll bar has been added - an option on the 1980 dealer brochure (included). This past year Iadded the Western Cyclones you see on the car. My absolute favorite wheels for a gold T/A! The wheels are completely machined and powder coated from Detroit Vintage Wheels. They are better then when they were new. Brand new BF Goodrich tires, 235s up front, 255s on the rear.Car has rear air shocks - maybe 2 years old. This past winter the car underwent an extensive tune up. Carb has been rebuilt and is dialed in. Distributor and fuel pump replaced. Plugs, wires, belts, hoses, vacuum hoses all gone through and replaced as needed. Radiator was removed and the core replaced. Alternator and battery are new. I have a period correctrear window louver I'm working on that comes with the car as well as a replacement nose emblem. Also included is an MP emblem that came from 1979 Macho #69 - car had been totaled.
I have really enjoyed owning this car. But realize that I may not be the guy at the end of the rainbow. I would next replace the seat covers and carpet - both are in good shape with no rips or tares but are showing age.Seats are in great shape foam and structure wise. Dash is cracked but not terrible.Car will need paint at some point but still shows very well. Car had a 2 year oldrespray when I bought it- I would add the Macho window paint and the call out at the bottom like a 79 Macho- it was an option on the brochure. Floors are solid. Just a great candidate for pro touring or weekend shows. But reliable as is for the weekly cruise. I generally take herout a couple of times a month for a 20-30 mile - up to 80mph - drivethrough the rollingVirginia / Shenandoah country side.
Happy to answer any serious questions. You know the drill - No warranties or guarantees other the then facts that I have stated above. Its a RARE CAR!! Thanks for looking and good luck.
