OFFERED AT NO RESERVE!!
There comes a time in the collector car world when a perfect storm comes together and the opportunity of a lifetime is presented directly in front of you. This opportunityhas been in the making since 1965. 54 years ago a young Delta Airline Pilot thought it was time to treat himself to a new car to celebrate his successes achieved at such an early age. He didn't choose Cadillac or Lincoln, nor did he choose Mercedes or BMW, he confidently walked into his local Pontiac dealer and decided on the LeMans with GTO package. Back in 65 the GTO package was overwhelmingly successful and at the time, it was the baddest car on the streets. Some say it was the beginning of the muscle car. But little did this Pilot know that when he ordered his particular GTO, the one offered here today, he chose some of the rarest combinations of options that are highly sought after today. He ordered this car with a four speed along with the factory a/c. A very rare combination, because most of the buyers at that time didn't care about Air Conditioning, they wanted the car to go as fast as possible in a straight line.
What we tend to forget is that these cars were large to begin with and so driveability was still luxurious, but when it was packed with the GTO power it had the capability to roast the tires right off the rear wheels when needed to. And when not showing off, it could be comfortable and enjoyable with a/c and a nice am/fm stereo to enjoy. The day this young pilot bought this car, little did he know, he was creating an opportunity for the next owner to buy and collect such a rare car and he took care of the car as if he knew that possibly one day it would make its future owner as proud as it made him to own it. Please read on to find out about the condition of the car and see many photos and a video at the very bottom. Thank you for visiting.
Exterior:
The car has all its original body panels and about 80% of its original paint. Only are there some touch up spots showing here and there on the body that were done over time to maintain its original appearance. All the original stampings are on the panels and new weather stripping has been installed along with new felts. The front windshield has been replaced but that's it. All the bright work and chrome are original and shows in excellent original condition. The hubcaps are original and are on top of the original wheels. All the lights operate as they should. Underneath the car is all original and is solid. There is one small spot in the trunk area that it looks like something leaked through the metal, you'll see that spot in one of the photos below. Again, this is an original car so do not expect show quality and high luster paint, expect patina and originality. Let me know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
The interior is bone stock. The patina is excellent. Two things have been replaced in the interior. The carpet and 1 section of the driver's seat, other than that it's all original and in excellent, well preserved condition. All the gauges work properly and even the radio works. Notice the shift knob and how original that looks. The original a/c is all intact and I would recommend a service before using it. The headliner is also original and looks great. Notice the door jambs and how solid the car is. It is apparent that the car has always been well cared for and stored in a climate control garaged its whole life. Take a look at the photos and let me know of any questions you may have.
Drive-Train:
The engine and transmission are #s matching and run perfectly. Other then documented maintenance throughout its life, this car's mechanics are stock. The original rear was removed and a more highway friendly, period correct rear was installed. The tires are about 2 years old and the exhaust is new. The original posi rear does come with the car, but keep that in mind when making arrangements for shipping or pick up. The video will show just how well this car runs and drives. They are only original once, and once you restore a car like this you lose that original ride feeling. Restoring a car can never replicate the integrity and comfort of originality.
The Paper Work:
This car is highly documented, it still is in the original owner's name on the original title. It comes with the protect-o-plate, the original window sticker, and books. It also has the original letter from Pontiac to the customer. Even the original bank contract identifying the 2 cars this Pilot traded in on this GTO. Please look at all the documentation spread out on the hood in the pictures. PHS Documentation is also included.
In Summation:
So as you can see below and above, this car is a very special car. It was special when the day it was ordered, not only to celebrate success, but tocommemorate a very special car that represents an era we all wish we could go back to. It was ordered with just the right options to make it stand a little be stronger from the pack. It's the right car, lets hope its the right time for the perfect opportunity for its next owner.
