1988 Pontiac Fiero Additional Info:
This 1988 Fiero began life as a notchback Formula that was given extraordinary care by the original owner. The second owner turned it over to Sinister Performance of Ft. Wayne, Indiana to make it perform as aggressively as it looks. This was accomplished by swapping in a supercharged L-32 3800 Series III V-6. The bulletproof engine was further upgraded with Yella Terra roller rockers, a Northstar throttle body, and a faster spinning supercharger pulley. Estimated horsepower is just shy of 300. Engine management is handled by a custom programmed 3.8 liter Series II PCM computer. Power is transferred to thewheels through a Speck racing clutch and extremely rugged Getrag 5 speed transaxle.The body has also been upgraded with fastback quarter panels, deck lid, bumper, and tail light from a top of the line 1988 GT.
The entire historyof the Fiero has been thoroughly documented, from the original dealership delivery in 1988, to the powertrainandother upgrades,right through the present time. All documentation will be provided to the new owner.To build this car today would conservatively require several months and an investment of 15 to 20 thousand dollars.
Here is a brief summary of some of the enhancements to this Fiero:
* 3800 Series III (L32) Supercharged V-6 engine sourced from a totaled 2007 Grand Prix GT with 32k miles (now has around 40k).
* Intense Racing 3.4 Supercharger Pulley. Dramatically enhances throttle response and boost, while maintaining reliable street driveability.
* Yella Terra Roller Rocker Arms
* Walbro high performance fuel pump
* K & M Cold Air intake
* New ZZP coil packs, Accel wires, NGK iridium plugs.
* All new AC/Delco primary engine management sensors (O2, TPS, MAF, MAP, Fuel Pressure Regulator, etc).
* New AC/Delco battery.
* Custom exhaust with Magna Flow muffler and Corvette tips.
* Spec Stage 3+ racing clutch* Getrag/Muncie 5-speed transmission
* 4 wheel disc brakes.
* Custom wheels 18 x 9 rear, 17 x 7 front.
* Cooper Zeon RS3G-1 performance street tires with less than 2k miles. These provide a solid balance of grip, handling and ride comfort.
Model year 1988 was the last and best of the Pontiac Fiero line, with vastly improved suspension and handling. The Fiero is still the only two-seatmid-engine sports car ever mass produced in America (until the 2020 Corvette arrives!).
The body and interior are nice enough to have been proudly displayed at several car shows; but it is a 31 year old car, so don't expect showroom perfection. The duraflex exterior panels do not rust, and there is little or no rust on the inner panels or chassis. Along with normal daily driver scuffs and stone chips, there are two smudge spots on the upper panels of the doors, where some kind of prior tape stripe was removed. This can't be seen until up close. There is a slight wrinkle in the duraflex quarter panel near the gas door, and two half dollar sized spots of clear coat loss on the rear hood/decklid (both pictured).There is afinger tip size separation of the fabric on the outer bolster of the driver's seat (pictured). The GT sail panels have a sparkly crazing, and the left one has a 2 inch crack (pictured); very common with the factory plexiglass panels. Excellent replacements are available at The Fiero Store.
Until you unleash it, this Fiero is a kitten. It can be a super reliable and comfortable daily driver thatwill pull 18-26 mpg all week, then go out and rock a road course or challenge the backroad twisties all weekend. Hit the gas hard and things get rowdy. There's no sound quite like the whine of an Eaton M90 supercharger spooling up right behind your seat. Acceleration is capable of embarrassing many high dollar European sports cars and American muscle cars (should the need arise). The look, sound, performance, and handling are truly exhilarating - like no other car you can buy for this money. It is an absolute blast to drive, but the current owner just turned 60, and it's becoming harder to get in and out of such a low slung car.
