Those of you that follow me know that I am ALWAYS on the hunt for the lowest mileage Firebirds and Trans-Am's that I can find. This car certainly takes the prize, as it is a 7,947 original mile UN-RESTORED car, and it is just spectacular! The cars history started when it was built at the Norwood assembly plant the first week of August, 1976. It was shipped to Cochran Pontiac in Monroeville, PA on 8/4/1976, and was sold and titled to the original owner on 09/02/1976 in Pittsburgh, PA. That owner kept the car just under 30 years, and only put 7,786 miles on it in that time, and when it wasn't on the road, it lived in a heated garage on jack stands. On 06/05/2006, the original owner traded the Firebird in at Bob Massie Toyota in McKeesport, PA, and the signed odometer form showing ACTUAL MILEAGE at 7,786 miles. He also signed the PA DMV MV-27 Dealer Assignment form, again verifying the mileage at 7,786 ACTUAL miles. On 06/21/2006, Bob Massie Toyota sold the car to the SECOND owner, and again listed mileage as ACTUAL at 7,786 on the included Bill of Sale from that transaction. The car was brought to the second owners home in Florida, and on 08/10/2006 it was placed in his name in Florida showing 7,793 ACTUAL MILES. On 08/21/2006, he went back the Florida DMV to add his wife's name on the title, just 11 days after the original was done. At this time, the DMV listed the mileage as EXEMPT, as is common in our DMV offices here unless you take the time to address original mileage with them. The second owner assumed it would be correct, and has owned the car since August of 2006, putting just 154 miles on it, as it spent its whole time with him in an enclosed, climate controlled building with a large private collection of vehicles. We have contacted the DMV, and they cannot assist us in reversing the error, but anyone, including the most jaded vehicle inspector, will clearly see that the car is about as original and untouched as they can be. Currently, the car has 7,947 miles on the odometer, and it may have 10 or so more from moving it around our warehouses and test drives. It is absolutely amazing, and save for an oil filter, 2 hoses, and the tires, is 100% original parts that were installed the day it was built. Tires were replaced in 1988 due to being 12 years old and at the recommendation of the Pontiac dealer. Uniroyal Tiger Paw RWL radials were installed, and still look new from a tread standpoint, but should be replaced due to age should you wish to drive the car regularly. Thanks to being stored in the air, they do not have flat spots, and the only visual issue is the fading of some of the RWL's. Thanks to being dry stored for the majority of the past 13 years, the car needed very little to bring it back to life. Fresh fuel was added to the drained tank, and it was scoped to insure no residue had built up. The original carb was removed, and treated to a full clean and tune by the Legendary "El Camino John". Then, with a turn of the key, it fired right up! We have safety checked the car, and it has fully functional: HEADLIGHTS (HIGH AND LOW BEAM) TURN SIGNALS (FRONT AND REAR) HAZARD LIGHTS PARKING LIGHTS BRAKE LIGHTS REVERSE LIGHTS DASH LIGHTS FOOT WELL LIGHTS DOME LIGHT GLOVE BOX LIGHT AM RADIO REAR DEFROSTER WIPERS WASHER SPRAYER In addition, the gauges all appearto be working correctly at this time as well. The heating and fan control has been disconnected, as the original owner removed the heater core from the car in 1990 when it was set up for long-term storage. The original heater core IS included, and with it installed and the fan controls connected again, I am quite sure it would function. The Firethorn finish on the car is 100% original, and there are no signs of any panel replacement, patching, previous damage, or non-factory paint to be found anywhere on the car. There is NO rust on the painted surfaces of the car, and NO bubbling or blistering of the paint either. WE HAVE NOT FORMALLY DETAILED THE CAR! We washed it, wiped it off with Turtle Wax Quick Detail spray, and took the photos. What you see is the original and correct finish the car was born with, which has been carefully maintained since new by the two previous owners. The D98 accessorystripes, and all of the FORMULA and BIRD decals are all original to the car, and all exceptionally nice. The DS0 rear spoilerlooks amazing, and has no issues or damage. Door edge guards, roof molding, hood molding, and wheel well moldingall shows incredibly well. Rear window trim is like new. All of the glass is original to the car, and it is damage and issue free and doesn't even show any light marks. All of the lights are in exceptional working and appearing condition. Dual exhaust tips coming out the back of each side of the car show age, but are in solid condition. The steel painted wheels are in solid and straight condition and painted to match car, with Pontiac dog-dish center caps that are just as nice. They show only the lightest signs of use like a scuff or chip. Wheels are wrapped in the aforementioned Uniroyal tires, size 215/70R15. Headlight trim, hood bulge inserts, and honeycomb grill inserts all look fantastic, as does the FIREBIRD emblem front and center. Inside, the car shows like new, with only two minor things to mention. Door panels are exceptional on both sides. Pulls, handles, roller arm, map pockets, trim, and locks all show like new. Rubber trim and weatherstripping looks AMAZING, and is original to the car. LH mirror adjuster works as it should. Door sill plates are like new on both sides. Dash is clean, un-cracked, and issue free. Wood panel insert around gauges shows beautifully. All buttons and switch gear is like new, with no issues. Emergency brake works perfectly, as does the release for it. The 4-speed manual transmission functions wonderfully and looks great too. Yes, the reverse key lockout still works, along with the annoying key buzzer! Full length center console is in exceptional condition, with no issues. All dash lights work, and all warning lights work as well. Carpeting shows like new throughout, and it comes with original rubber front floor mats. Front kick panels are clean and and un-cracked, and show light discoloration from age. Rear side panels are clean and undamaged and the rear ashtrays have never been used and are in great condition as well. Rear package shelf shows like new, and the optional US0 rear shelf speakers sound great too! Seats are clean, neat, and damage free all around, with no rips, tears, seam pulls, or damage. Seat backs are incredibly clean and nice, and the seat belts are all in exceptional condition as well. Door seals are in amazing condition, and all of the inner doors, under doors, sills, and hinges look amazing too. Visors are like new, and the dome lamp works perfectly. The two flaws I mentioned earlier? 1st, the headliner is sagging, and since it is original, we didn't want to touch it. The 2nd is a small mark on the bottom of the steering wheel trim that you can see in the photos. Other than that, the interior is magnificent, and 100% original from the factory. Opening the trunk shows the originalpan cover with insulation that is in amazing condition, and the original optional temporary spare, which also shows like new. All of the exposed wiring for the lights is factory original, and pans inner quarters show no sign of damage, rust, rot, or repair. Trunk rubber seal is like new, and everything looks the way it should. Pop open the hood, and the original numbers matching 400ci V8 and 4-speed transmission is what you find. Other than some hoses, the previously mentioned removal of the heater core and lines, and the oil filter, the rest of what you see is original to the car, and has not been replaced. It starts, runs, idles, and performs wonderfully. It doesn't appear to leak or weep fluid. It does not smoke. It just fires up and is ready to go. I have tried to take a photo of every section of the car, and if you want to see something in particular, just ask me for it. The car drives like it was 1978 and you were test driving a 7,900 mile used car. It has no known functional or operational issues and drives out fantastic! The entire undercarriage of the car is clean and solid, and there is NO rust or rot or anything to be found. The brakes are original and have not been changed from new. The rear is original, the shocks and springs are all original, and you are seeing it the way it looks without being cleaned or detailed. The rustproofing that was put on the car when new is starting to come off, and is dry and brittle, but it has served its purpose in protecting the original metal throughout the underside of the car. The body has NEVER been separated from the chassis, and panels have never been removed from the body. It is all original. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME SEE THE CAR IN PERSON, OR HIRE AN INSPECTOR TO SEE IT. It will only help to verify the cars condition, and sell it that much faster. These cars are only original ONCE, and are only UN-RESTORED once. This could be the lowest mileage Formula in existence, and it could be yours too. It comes with a copy of the original invoice to Cochran Pontiac, the bill of sale and DMV paperwork from when the car was traded in 2006, a copy of the original title to the car showing the name of the person who bought it in 1976 matches the name of the person trading it in 2006, and some miscellaneous receipts. It truly is one of the finest examples of an un-restored classic you could ask to find, and has never been offered for sale until now.
That’s about all I can tell you, but I encourage questions and addition photo requests if it helps you make a decision. READ THE AD COMPLETELY. LOOK AT ALL OF THE EXTRA LARGE PHOTOS PROVIDED. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET - NO DISAPPOINTMENTS. I took photos of it from every angle I could, and I encourage you to ask questions, come see it, or arrange for an inspection PRIOR TO BUYING IT. I don't have anything to hide, and have tried to cover every part of the vehicle as best I could. It has a clean and clear title, and is ready for a new owner. The vehicle is located in our Fort Myers, FL warehouse, and is just 15 minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) if you want to fly in and see it.
