1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ
Clean, all original, unmolested, V8, console, bucket seats, tilt, cruise, cold A/C, excellent driver!
Here we have a hard to find clean and unmolested blast from the past. This is a 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with two-tone green factory paint, landau top, and original cloth (velour) interior. It has the original Pontiac 301 V8 with 2-bbl Rochester Dual-jet and automatic transmission with factory floor/console shifter. Cold A/C and hot heat, cruise control, tilt wheel, and factory AM/FM radio.
I bought this in the spring from a gentleman in Alabama whose wife used it as a semi-daily driver, so it has been maintained to be safe and reliable. I’m only selling because I have my eye on something else and need the garage space and cash. If the car does not sell for the right price, I’m fine keeping it.
Everything works except the rear window defroster, clock and windshield washer (the wipers work fine).
The following has been repaired / replaced within the last 2 years (much of the work done as preventive maintenance):
The car was undercoated / rust-proofed when new, so either Rusty Jones or Ziebart. As such, the body is in great shape and also has no dents or dings but does have a few stone chips from being driven. There are two rust spots that I can find; one the size of a nickel on the lower right of the trunk lid and one slightly larger behind the rear passenger wheel (see pictures of both). These are "bubbles" and have not come through the paint completely but will need to be addressed at some point. There is also the typical surface stuff on the lower doors and I have taken pictures of that too. There is no rust through and it is only on the surface and is a simple repair.
The rear bumper fillers were replaced and painted by the second owner and the front bumper fillers appear to be original and in good shape. The landau vinyl top is in good shape with no rips, tears, or dry rot and cleans up nicely.
The car is originally a 14” wire wheel car, and a set of the wire wheel hubcaps are included with the sale. I also have the car’s PHS documents and I will include with them with the sale. I took a photo of the invoice and it's included here.
This is probably one of the most original Grand Prix's of this era in this color combo and it looks great with the snowflakes. That said, it is almost a 40-year-old car. It has some imperfections as expected and may need other maintenance. The car could use new door weather stripping (driver side) which I will include with the sale.
This car is reliable and comfortable. The A/C is cold, and the heat is hot. When I bought the car, the previous owner said they made a couple of 200+ mile trips in it and it performed flawlessly. I have only taken it out on short drives to local car shows. It rides and drives great and is a bold 70’s era statement. People always have something to say every time I show it.
The car has the factory fuel gauge + idiot lights which all work, except the clock. The extra gauge cluster pictured adds a temp, voltage, and oil pressure gauge if the new owner cares to install them. I also have another speedo / clock cluster and guage cluster (it came with the speedo/clock cluster) which I will include (although I don’t know if they work, but I was told they did when removed). I do have the original owner's manual for the car along with some other paperwork that came with the car when bought new.
This car is almost 40 years old and comes with NO WARRANTY either expressed or implied. The car is registered in New York and I have a clear title with no liens. I will assist with shipping or in-person pickup of the car at your expense. I can hold the vehicle to give you time to arrange for shipping if that's your preference. A non-refundable deposit of $250 will be required at the end of the auction to hold the vehicle for shipping/pickup. I will accept a PayPal deposit. Cash payment or certified bank check for the remaining purchase price of the car
See my 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence. If you have "0" or less than 95% positive feedback, please do not bid. If you’d like to talk to me about the car, my name is John and I can be reached at 518-573-2372.
Thank you and happy bidding and I’m sure the lucky winner will be thrilled with this blast from the past!
PLEASE NOTE: This is the last time I will list the car. There have been too many tire kickers who make offers and then disappear. So one last try. Once again, if you are serious, please call. This is my bottom line price. High bid gets it.
