1969 Pontiac Bonneville Additional Info:
1969 Pontiac Bonneville Ambulance
Built by Superior Coach Conversions South California
Originally basedat a fire station in (city), Oregon.
This Vehicle was purchased from a family in Berkeley, CA in 1992 and has been with the same family since then.
A complete bottom up restoration of the Pontiac was done in 1999 to a hotrod standard. All dents and a few typical rust spots on the floor were repaired before a complete repaint.
The restoration was performed by the legendary hot rod builder/restorer Pineapple at Pineapples Hot Rod Shop in (city),CA. No bondo was used, all metal work done to perfection. Pineapple sprayed the car with high quality paint and signed the project at the end of a month's work, as he did with all his creations. It may be well hidden and take a little effort to find, but its there.
The engine was specifically ordered for this car since the Firehouse needed the horsepower. This Engine was not hot-rodded. The engine is an original correctly rebuilt 428 cu with 399 horsepower. This was the highest factory horsepower ever made by the Pontiac factory. It was a standard option available in their option tables for the various car engine combinations but had to be ordered. Generally referred to as a big block it was only available in a few muscle cars that are also collectible today. It could be ordered with the Bonneville sedan but that was also rare. The factory horsepower ratings started to decline in the 70s due to emissions regulations. There is a chart on the internet showing different engine options at the time (1969).
Engine was rebuilt at the time of restoration with only a few hundred miles driven since. Transmission was also rebuilt. Same mileage as the rebuild Engine, not much. Plus the addition of Fishtail pipes.
By law, when the Ambulance was put on sale, the firehouse name had to be removed.
The original hubcaps are saved and included in the sale but the original rims were lost by Pineapple. Don’t know what happened to them but what’s on the car are not the factory rims. Still the current rims are tasteful chrome and could serve well if the car was taken back to all original condition.
Some surface rust around the hubcaps.
White wall tires
2 new Batteries
Swing seat in the front. Those are “factory correct” from another car of that period but I don’t remember which. Original red/maroon bench seat included as well as extra trim pieces for the cab.
Original color of the Ambulance was maroon red.
Cabinets / storage in the back are still as original.
Blue lights in back.
Front side lamps are not original, but have the originals laying in the back. They will be included.
Original steering wheel
Original electrical hooks ups and switches inside in the back above the windows.
Electrical buttons in the Driver Cabin.
The original stretcher is missing but that is about all.
