1968 FIREBIRD CONVERTIBLE Solid Oklahoma project car PHS DOCUMENTED - A TRUE 400 4 SPEED CONVERTIBLE Clean title in my name. Original color was Flambeau Burgundy with white top. SOLID 400 CONVERTIBLE PROJECT NEEDS WORK It ran some 15 years ago when parked, but will need extensive work to get it running again. Engine condition is unknown and may be locked up. Drive train is not original, but car is an original 4 speed 400. The title is an Oklahoma title in my name and is clear and free of any liens, etc, so you should not have any unusual problems in bringing the title into your name. Naturally the car has not been tagged in over 10 years and tagging it will be Buyer’s responsibility. Currently this car has a non-original 400 motor, believed to be from a higher performance Pontiac 70 to 71 400. Transmission may be original. Rear end is not original. Car is missing brake parts and also missing other parts including the console and rally gauges. Car ran and drive when parked some 15 years ago but wiring, brakes, etc., are missing and will need replacement. Engine is questionable. Hood hinges rusted and stiff so raising hood could bend it. Floor and trunk pans so so. LH quarter patch is broken loose (shown in pics). Convertible top will need replacing. Convertible top frame has been in down position for years, so unknown condition there. A GREAT START FOR A SERIOUS RESTORATION This car is a PHS documented original 400 4 speed with a very nice original color combination and originally had console and rally gauges. So it will make a stunning car when completed. The car is also fairly solid, having lived in Oklahoma for most of its life. I bought the car in the mid 80’s in Oklahoma and it has been there ever since. Here are some 10 footers to show you what you is offered. CLOSE UP PICTURES OF THE CAR Close up of the rear quarter section on LH side. You can see that the quarter patch is separating at the welds. Close up of the engine, which is non-original. PICTURES OF THE INTERIOR This series of pictures will show the considerable amount of work that will need to be done on the interior. Note that for years I have had this towel over the dash pad, trying to protect it. THE UNDERSIDES PHS DOCUMENTATION Per Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documentation this is a true original Firebird 400 4 speed convertible. This first pic is a copy of the GM Pontiac Microfiche record for this car. The vin number is highlighted in yellow in the top RH corner. To the right of the yellow highlighted area for color and trim is shown what identifies this as a true 400 which is box 34 with the number 5 – correct order number for a Firebird 400. In box 35 is the number 4 – correct for a 4 speed manual transmission. As part of the packet one receives from PHS, they include detailed explanation sheets showing the various options. The ones which the researched car have are highlighted in yellow. This portion shows the car to be an original 400. Note that the code numbers correspond to the microfiche numbers. Highlight showing car to be a Firebird 400 4 speed Highlights showing that this car came with a Rally Gauge Cluster and Console, both of which are no longer present. Note that other items are also missing. Close up of sheet detailing exterior finishes, highlighting the N1 color code, as also shown on the original microfiche copy shown a few pictures above. Although now blue, the original color of this convertible was Flambeau Burgundy with a white convertible top. Copy of PHS sheet detailing production numbers of various engines. Note that there were 7553 Firebird 400 WZ (manual transmission) engines built. This includes coupes and convertibles. There were 16,960 convertibles built in 1968. How many were 400 4 speed convertibles? PICK UP & LOADING ISSUES The car is easy to get to, with no serious things in the way. However, as you can see, it will not roll and the current tires will probably not air up. If picking up yourself you would want to bring good tires/wheels and the tools and jacks necessary to change them. If using a transport, you will need to also hire a wrecker to load the car onto a transport. Keep in mind that several transport companies will not load a car that will not roll. You will need to make sure that your transport will carry a car that will not roll. Also, the car has no brakes (some brake parts are even missing), so even once it is able to roll it will require caution. Also, I have no tools, no air, and no jack, so you can not count on me to help. THANKS FOR LOOKING PICKUP INFORMATION Local pickup to be in Oklahoma. Buyer will need to bring wheels/tires and whatever else may be necessary to load the car. If using a transport, Buyer will need to make sure transport company will transport a car that will not roll. Time of pickup, whether by transport or pick up by Buyer, will need to be coordinated with me or my representative. |
BEING SOLD ‘AS IS’ Sold ‘AS IS’ with no warranty, either expressed, written, or implied. Some pictures may show other cars and various loose parts in and outside of the car which do not belong to this car. Neither the parts or the adjacent vehicles or buildings pictured in this listing are included as a part of this auction. Wheels/tires may be different from those pictured unless noted otherwise. Any wheels/tires on the car are so old and rotten as to be totally useless for loading/unloading and tires will slide off rims if not already off rims. |

TITLE/LOADING ISSUES Upon completion of the transaction, as noted in the Terms of Sale, you will be given the Oklahoma title which is in my name and is free and clear and is not some salvage title. I do not have a current year tag for the car, which if deemed necessary, is to be the responsibility of the Buyer. Car has no brakes, etc, and tires are probably off rims and will not hold air, so loading may be difficult. Please plan accordingly and provide the necessary means and manpower. If using a transport please advise them of the loading issues. The car is easily accessible for loading. |
