1970 Pontiac Lemans Sport Coupe
Presented for sale is this well preserved and documented Pontiac muscle car. This Lemans Sport Coupe has the correct Sierra yellow exterior with black Cordova top and black vinyl interior. These are all correct original colors as per the Pontiac Data card (acquired from Pontiac Historic Services). For the 1970 model year, with the exception of the GTO, the Lemans “Sport” model was the most expensive/optioned in the Lemans series.
I have been able to construct a fairly complete history of the car based on the Pontiac data card and the extensive records kept by the third owner and his family. They have been the car’s caretakers from April 1976-December 2017.The car was originally shipped to Boomershine Pontiac Inc. in Atlanta, Ga in July 1970. I have documentation of sale of the vehicle to presumably its second owner by Davis Used Cars in Rockmart, Ga on January 6, 1972.In presumably the next transfer of ownership, the third owner purchased the car in April, 1976. The Ga certificate of title notes Rockmart, Ga as the new thirdowner's address.
The car stayed in Georgia until approximately 1994 when it moved to Colorado with the owner’s father. During his custodianship the car underwent an engine rebuild ($3181) in 1998. In March 2000 the Lemans traveled to Connecticut, where it stayed under the care of the owner’s father-in-law. During his tenure, between 2000-2002, the Lemans was repainted in it’s original Sierra yellow, new vinyl top, new dash, glove box, complete brake system rebuild and multiple additional mechanical issues addressed. Although not well documented, it appears the interior upholstery was also replaced. The car participated in a number of local car shows over the next few years before sitting in storage from 2008-2014. The car returned to the owner’s care in Georgia in 2015. He sold the car to me in December 2017.
The car’s 5-digit odometer read 57,019 at the time of it’s purchase by the thirdowner in 1976. In 1998, the odometer read 83718 when it underwent the engine rebuild. Mileage was noted to be 81,266 in 2014. In 2014, the Lemans had a major service, including upgrade to a pertronix electronic ignition, new alternator, and brake work. In 2015 the owner drove the car from Connecticut to Atlanta without any incident. Additional brake work including a new master cylinder was performed in 2015. Currently the odometer reads 83021, presumably 183021 actual miles on the car, 99303 on the engine rebuild.
Of note, even though several maintenance/repair invoices note the car’s VIN # as 237370P302694, the car has been registered under “GA23274” on titles and other documents since at least 1976. The car has GA23274 noted inside the front driver side dash and driver side front door (see photos).
Currently, the car as is, is a respectable daily driver. I have received several “thumbs up” on drives to my lake house 90 miles from home…so it needs no apologies in its current condition. The exterior paint looks good at 15 feet, but has some minor scratches and chips. The car has no rust. The chrome bumpers both have some minor pitting and the rear bumper is slightly out of alignment (see photos). The engine starts right up… the 350ci 2 barrel does have a great muscle car sound. The car drives well; the automatic transmission shifts very smoothly. There are no major fluid leaks…the garage floor is dry under the car. With the exception of two worn spots on the carpet (which are covered by new period correct matts), the interior is in excellent condition. There are no worn areas on the seats, the dash has no cracks, the headliner looks great. The car originally had A/C, but the compressor, etc. have been removed. The center cap on the passenger rear tire is cracked, but I have purchased a new cap. The original Delcoradio does not work. The National XT 3000 tires (P215 75 R14) have between 9-10/32” tread remaining. The wheels are in good shape, withminor wear. The car comes with a large stack of documents thatsupport the above information, available on request.
The car is sold AS-IS. No warranties are made, direct or implied. Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged. Initial non-refundable $1000.00 deposit is required within 24 hours of the purchase via cash or PayPal. The remainder is due by cash or wire transfer within 7 days of purchase. I will assist with arranging transportation as needed, but all costs and responsibility for transport are on the buyer. The car is being advertised locally so I hold the right to end this auction early and sell it locally.
