1968 Pontiac GTO Additional Info:
For sale is my 1968 Pontiac GTO. It looks brown, but is the factory maroon, with black interior. This is a genuine 242 car. I purchased it in 2010, and it has sat in storage ever since. Supposedly, the previous owner had it in storage, as well. Based on the overall condition, I'd say that is accurate. Unfortunately, almost immediately after I bought it, the engine went out. I have talked to numerous mechanics, and based on my description of the event, they all believe it is a spun main bearing. Prior to the engine going out, it ran like a crackhead on meth! (It was fast!) I was amazed by the low end torque and ability to get a scratch in all 4 gears! THis car is in amazing shape. The say i bought it, a guy stopped me on the street and offered me pick up truck, his friend (the passenger) and a BJ for the car! Seriously! Still a fun memory over that offer!
This is a matching numbers vehicle, PHS documented (which documentation you will get along with the vehicle when you purchase it). Original motor, original transmission, original everything. On the passenger side front roof pillar, there is blue paint showing not visible from the exterior. I originally thought this had been a blue car that someone painted maroon, but the PHS documentation says the maroon is original, so I don't know if that is some sort of factory error, or if a previous owner thought they'd test a hidden spot and didn't proceed with painting.
Here's the good:Genuine 242 carMatching numbers (PHS documented)Original motorOriginal transmissionGood rubber (Hoosiers)Survivor requiring very little to no body work (depending on your plans with the vehicle)Nice, clean interior, with no rips or tears in upholstery or carpet (the seat springs are really squeaky, though)Complete seatbelt set up in place, with both lap and shoulder strap as separate piecesRear arm rests are present (though not installed)Clean trunkOriginal 14 in Pontiac Rally wheels with the "PMD" center caps (hard to find and expensive to replace if missing)Not a lot of miles on this. (speedometer mileage frozen at 52244.9, though we have no idea how much driving was done after that) This was supposedly the family patriarch's vehicle and he quit driving it and put it in storage until he died and the family sold it to the dealer I purchased it from.Speedometer, tachometer, oil and fuel gauges worked last time I drove itDash lights work but are extremely dimAll exterior lights workVinyl top is in perfect condition
Here's the bad:Motor is deadGas tank leaks, but from the top and only if the vehicle gets tilted to being towed levelsTrunk lock is punchedRear window may leak (I found a small amount of water [maybe 4 ounces] in the trunk after I washed the car to take these pics. I don't know if it was from the window, trunk seal or punched lock hole)Seat springs are extremely squeakyDriver side sun visor flops down during hard braking, acceleration or shiftingDriver side view mirror is looseRear arm rests not installedMinor dings (maybe 3 or 4) and scratches in paint, typical of car this ageSomeone painted the top 2 inches of the rear bumper black.
I will require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction win/buy it now purchase, and complete payment within 3 days unless the winner and I come to a different arrangement on the time issue (7 days maximum). I will not hold this vehicle for you. If you do not meet the requirements, I will put it back up for sale immediately at the end of the 3 days. I will sell this vehicle to anyone, anywhere, as it is on you to handle the shipping or pick up of this vehicle. If you are from a foreign country and want to fly/drive here to purchase this, I will sell it to you.
