This 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible represents the rare chance to own a well-appointed muscle car icon that not only offers miles and miles of future open-air driving enjoyment, but also retains a sought after period-correct configuration while still running with confidence-inspiring road-readiness and plenty of power. Because there were also so few of its counterparts produced, it holds bona fide collectability, as well.
As the last of the first-generation GTOs, this '67 carries a variety of styling elements that would soon become unavailable - its distinctive vertically situated dual headlights and generously proportioned size being among them. Clad in its original burgundy color, it exudes mid-'60s style and rockets forward to the present with a fresh, vital look. That shade itself really stands apart from the crowd while still remaining very tasteful - a great match for this classic - and looks impressively uniform from front to back. Draw a little closer and you'll notice the pinstripes running the length of its sides were applied with a lot of craftsmanship, showing nice, sharp edges. From the dual front grilles and bumper up front to the casings surrounding the distinctive eight-lens taillights in back, the chrome all represents itself very well, which certainly adds to the visual impact. Should you find yourself cruising down the road with darkening skies above you, the power convertible top raises into place without incident for protection.
The parchment vinyl interior waiting inside is truly impressive, with high-backed buckets in front and a bench seat in back that have been refurbished to their original specifications and, owing to the scant number of miles logged since their restoration, show no real signs of wear. The amount of room on display hits you right away - while this GTO is a genuine muscle car, it's a spacious one, with plenty of room to oblige those clamoring to ride along with you. As you climb into the driver's seat, you can't help but be impressed with the stellar condition of the dash area. Its contrasting black steel surfaces are impressively smooth, and the woodgrain accents surrounding the instrument cluster and lining the center console have been installed seamlessly. A supple-looking and table-straight dash pad runs across the top of the dash area and a pair of factory vents sit at each side, an indication that this venerable cruiser left the factory with air conditioning on board - a fairly rare option in drop tops of the era which has been upgraded to R134a, and it also comes with power windows and door locks. The hood-mounted tach looms just beyond the windshield and, in contrast to so many we see, it's fully functional. In back, the spacious trunk area is nice and clean and houses a full-size spare.
A very smooth running 400 cubic inch V8 sits just underneath the broad hood. It's a period-correct power plant and was Pontiac's most powerful offering during the model year, kicking out 360 horsepower. It starts promptly and is mated with a 4-speed manual transmission, to offer a great "hands on" driving experience and underscoring that this GTO is not just a vintage automotive conversation piece, but a great driving, road-ready vintage ride complete with power steering and power front disc brakes. This exceptional classic drop top sits on a set of 14" Hurst wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich Silvertown radials.
With its great looks, careful restoration, factory-correct interior and powerful, capable drivetrain, this 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible is a "must see." Call today!
