1977 Pontiac Gran Prix Pickup

1977 Pontiac Grand Prix Additional Info:

I have owned this Pontiac Pickup for 20 years. Over the years I have sold all my Pontiacs except for two and this pickup is one of them. I have been involved with Pontiacs for 60 years and I had never seen another until recently when I was sent a picture of a 1976 Gran Prix Pickup.

I have tried to document this Pickup as to orgin but have little in the way of true history. I took it to the POCI Convention in Texas. No one at the convention had ever seen anything like it. The curator of the Pontiac Museum took pictures and we visited and we agreed it was not built by Pontiac but a custom shop, I obtained PHS documentation and it shows the Gran Prix Car (Not a pickup) was invoiced to Tyler Texas. It was loaded with options.

The previous owner told me years agoit was bult by a custom shop in California or Arizona. He said it was 1 of 5 built.That lead turned up nothing. Texas MVD has purged all the old records so a title history is not available. Ihad a copy of the oldTexas title and it says PontiacPickup. My current title says Pontiac Pickup. It is my understanding it is the only Pontiac Pickup in Texas.

During the convention I was shown things that I had never seen. Iwas toldby the previous owner that the (new) 1977 Gran Prix car was cut in halfand a(new) 1977 E Camino. Not true as the raised body lines on theGP door travel back into thelower part of the bed. The inside and upper portion,tail gate and rearbumper is all El Camino. In fact I have a picture of the Pontiac PU taken years ago with a El Camino white fiberglass topper on it.

The engine is a 400 cu in. Pontiacwith a turbo transmission. I drove it early on but it hasn't been started in years. It was in a warehouseuntil the last few months and I brought it out to sell.

It had carpetand it was wet and rusted the floor boards and Icut them out to accept the repoduction panel (which I have) I never replaced them.The doors appear to be Gran Prix doors but the glass has been modified to accept the El Camino style roof line. The body is probably 95% rust freebut it does has some light surface rust on the frame and in the (dog house) access panel in the bed. Nothing serious that I can see and will clean up with wire brush on sandblasting.I seecracked fiberglass filler on both sides about 8-10 inches down from the top of the bed.

The snowflake wheels have been on it for 20years. The odometer says 68,000 miles and I believe that is correct.The 400 engine appears to be all there but I haven't turned it over in years but it was full of antifreeze in the radiator and oil in the crankcase.

I have PHS documentation and a current Texas Title in my name. Numerous pictures on my phone.

It comes with another 1977 Gran Prix parts cars. (See photos)

The Pontiac Pickup is being sold as is and where is with no warranty. Has to be picked up at our place in North Texas.

If sold and paid for I will send the title, documentation, and pictures certified mail and can store it here at my place for up to 120 days. NO CHARGE FOR STORAGE.

The parts cars has not title and I lost it but will furnish a bill of sale.

Someone (not me) listed itand added some information (I am not sureif true) I don't think it is a Chatsworth conversion because I have seen a couple of their Cadillacs and they are squared off and not swoopy looking like the roof line of my pickup,

IT IS NOT A EL CAMINO WITH A PONTIAC FRONT CLIP AS SOME HAVE INDICATED.

THE VIN# IS PONTIAC.

12/12/17 - Several years back I was going to make a Street Rod out of it. I found and bought an aftermarket Ac/heater block off plate. It came from a custom fabrication shop and is fiberglass. The ac/heater assembly from under the hood can be replaced with this as a blank off plate. I was going to go with Vintage Air under the dash to remove all the clutter under the hood. I will take a photo and it goes with the sale.

IT HAS A PONTIAC VIN NUMBER,PONTIAC BUILD SHEET, PONTIAC TRIM TAG, PONTIAC 400 ENGINE, PONTIAC DASH,TEXAS TITLE THAT SAYS IT IS A PONTIAC PICKUP ANDIT APPEARS TO BE ALL PONTIAC EXCEPT FOR THE TOP HALF OFTHE BED AND THE REAR BUMPER. THOSE APPEARS TO BE EL CAMINO, .

The parts car has lots of good parts. If the winner of the auction wants to pull the good parts and leav e the balance that is ok. I live in the country and it would not be a problem. I can work with winner on time frame.
