1950 Pontiac Catalina Silver Streak HT Additional Info:
Here is a piece of American artwork that needs restoration. This is one of the first GM hardtops and one of the best looking (in my view). Lots of very cool small styling touches that come from the great Harley Earl era at GM.
I bought this generally solid machine with dreams of restoration, but it is too much for me as it is not the only project I have. Cost of re-chroming the bumpers is high and the car also needs body and mechanical restoration. Straight 8 flathead engine spins easily but condition is unknown (water pump is removed). Hydramatic Transmission condition unknown.
This is the top-of-the-line Pontiac for 1950 (ok, convertibles are worth more, but this was the center-fold in the brochure). They were only sold in one color - Sierra Rust (!) over Ivory (yellow). Two-tone leather interior (a neat red/ivory combo).
This car has some rust around the rear window, on the right rocker panel and a little floor rust inside near the "kick panels". Frame is good and trunk is exceptionally free of rust.
As far as I can see, the Catalina is complete, no known missing parts.
Build this car into an American classic and it should bring a lot of pleasure.....and be worth a lot of money.
