1968 Firebird California Black-Plate 400 4spd Un-Restored with Original Paint(“aka the “California Raisin”), "Born with" Engine and Drive Train, and Original Paperwork
Thank you for checking out my auction. This is truly a great un-restored piece of Pontiac history. It would not require too much other than a re-paint and a refresh on the suspension and steering bushings to take it to the next level, if desired. Personally, I really like it as it is and you do not see them in original paint in this condition (ok, what is left of the lacquer, the California Sun had its way with the finish). I have always liked the Raisin in its current Sun-Dried state and have others that have seen it and really think it should left un-restored, but that decision is left up the next ownership.
The car will come with its original real Bill of Sale, Broadcast sheet, Protecto-plate, owners manual, and the a copy of the California from the last registered owner (1996) of the car which is showing the California Black plate #s. The title is a color copy because I had to surrender it when I registered it but the rest of the documentation is the real deal, not PHS reproduced.
The following improvements were made during my ownership, focused on preservation and to keep the provenance since April 2012.
•Re-cored radiator and maintained the original Harrison tanks and stamps.
• New Gas tank sender unit (I thinks it was Rick’s Camaro website with the return hose.
•New interior seat covers and headliner professionally installed (PUI)
•Changed ignition points to petronix ingition (huge improvement and original parts will be included)
•Replaced the original plastic-cogged gears and timing chain with new gears and a double-oiler timing chain.
•Replaced the brake master cylinder with aftermarket, original has been rebuilt by Karp’s in CA (both incl)
•New front Sway-bar arm bushings and bolts (AMES)
•New Period-look Battery (have the receipt)
•New Battery Harness with pincer clamps (Ames)
•Period correct (date coded) 1968 Sun SuperTach (Day-2 item)
•Special ordered and wiring harness for Sun SuperTach
I have a carpet kit from AMES and a new Burl wood decal set for the console, and a front speaker replacement (radio works but the speaker is shot) that will be available at a discounted price to the buyer if interested.
The original GTO special order shift knob (as indicated on the invoice) will be installed and is included, but the Hurst T-shifter knob pictured will not be included with the auction (purchased the T handle in 2013 and got to keep a "piece" of the experience/ownership).
I believe that pictures speak a 1000 words so I will not belabor the description of this vehicle other than saying that is a really nice an “Honest Car.” I can provide several more pics through Google but will need to be contacted through eBay to do so. I will attempt to respond each night that it is listed.
Here are the Specs and codes for the 68 and what they translate to, based on the VIN and documentation:
