I am selling my 1992 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible. I am the second owner of this VERY RARE and LOW MILEAGE collector car. My Trans Am convertible was special ordered by the original owner from Martin Pontiac Cadillac GMC in West Los Angeles in January 1992, and the way it was ordered and built makes it a one of a kind third generation F-Body convertible. It was ordered with a factory 5 speed manual transmission. It is 1 of 94 1992 Trans Am convertibles that were equipped with a 5 speed Borg Warner T-5 manual transmission. It is also equipped with the 5.0 Tuned Port Injection motor. The transmission and motor are both numbers matching and original to the car, and the car only has 61,970 original miles! It was also ordered in red with a black top, black cross lace GTA wheels and grey leather seats and interior. The car is fully loaded with all TA options you could get in 1992, including a power antenna that still works perfectly. There is almost zero chance that any other 3rd gen F-Body convertible was built in this configuration, especially with full documentation, and under 62,000 original miles.
I have every maintenance record (almost all maintenance done at Martin Pontiac) from day 1 for this car, and all original documentation including the following: I have the original window sticker, all owners manuals, protecto plate, Pontiac introduction cassette tape still wrapped in cellophane, dealer delivery and inspection sheet, purchase contract, thank you letter from Pontiac, other various original documents, and documentation directly from Pontiac stating that this car is 1 of 94 1992 Trans Am convertibles withthe Borg Warner T-5 (world class T-5) 5 speed manual transmission.
The car is in clean mainly original condition, and the past two years or so, I have started to restore this car to perfection. Unfortunately, I do not currently have much free time to work on it now, so I figured I would consider selling it to someone who has more time, and would like to have one of the best, most unique and rare third generation F-Bodies that were ever made.
Here is a list of things that have been recently upgraded, restored or replaced on my TA:
New Clutch, flywheel and all clutch components: all were replaced 10,000 miles ago, using all GM parts, and this was done at Martin Pontiac Cadillac.
New AC compressor and R134-a conversion. Air Conditioning is really cold!!!
Newer battery, about 1.5 years old.
Both original headlamp motors rebuilt with a TDS premium rebuild kit.
New Pioneer speakers.
New/NOS GM spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, PCV valve and fuel filter and gas cap.
K&N replacement air filter
New Catback Flowmaster exhaust system with NOS GM exhaust hanger.
Serviced rear end and replaced diff cover with a New/NOS GM diff cover.
Serviced transmission fluid.
New rear plastic window.
New/NOS GM hood lift struts.
New Rear Sway bar end links.
The next project that I had planned for my TA was to replace the fuel injectors. Currently, the car has its original fuel injectors, and the car does miss sometimes due to needing the fuel injectors replaced. I have already purchased a new set of Accel Performance replacement fuel injectors, and I will include them in the sale of the car (they were almost $300!).
Other issues with the car that I am aware of are mainly cosmetic:
The car is 25 years old and it has some nicks and door dings, and the paint has faded and the clear coat has peeled off of the deck lid, tonneau cover and the rear spoiler. I would either want to keep it exactly like this for its old school patina or have the entire car repainted.
It needs new tires immediately. They are Michelin tires, but they are old and rotted. They still do hold air perfectly fine however. I have an almost new set of original GoodYear Eagle ZR50 Gatorback OEM tires that I would be willing to sell separately with the car if you are trying to keep it all original like I have.
I would replace the following plastic interior trim panels: the Black plastic upper trim panels on each door panel are warped from the sun, the center console shift plate has a crack that is covered by the center console lid, the seat belt trim caps each have a small crack in them, the front black plastic header trim panel (where the interior sun visors attach) is cracked, and the convertible top bow black plastic trim piece is also cracked.
The rear seat back at the top is cracking open in a few places.
All 4 wheels have some noteworthy curb rash on them.
Other than these issues, the car is really special and solid and complete. 3rd Generation F-Bodies are now really getting the respect they deserve in the collector car world, and low mileage convertible TA's are going to be among the ones that appreciate in value the most due to their rarity and the way they look. This car is only going to continue to appreciate in value. It has spent its entire life in Southern California and has no rust. You will never find another 3rd gen F-Body like this one, especially one that was special ordered and has a 5 speed manual.
The interior is very clean overall, and the dash pad is in perfect, mint condition, the door panels and plastic cup holders on the door panels are extremely clean, the center console is pretty clean, it has a clean original set of GM factory floor mats, and the carpet, while being somewhat faded is clean and doesn’t have any holes, rips or major stains. All power accessories work and operate as they should. The OEM GM highly desirable 1991-1992 TA rear taillights are in really clean condition. The car sounds awesome, and is so much fun to drive!!! Every time I take my TA convertible out for a drive, it gets so many thumbs up and compliments!! I do reserve the right to cancel this auction at anytime as the car is for sale locally.
