The Plymouth 'Cuda has been and always will be one of the top collectibles in the American muscle car field. 1970 was the first year of the very desirable 3rd generation Barracuda, and the 'Cuda was the performanceversion of the Barracuda. It was a separate model and was only available with high performance V8 power plants. This particular car originally came with the Super Commando 383 4 barrel engine producing 335 horsepower.
1970 is arguably the best year for the 'Cuda. The "hockey stick" graphics and single headlights gave the car a clean look in contrast to the '71's fussier design. This 1970 car is a runner driver that needs some cosmetic finishing. It came from the factory painted in Lime Light (bright green) and at some point in itslife was color changed to the current Vitamin C (orange). The current color is an exact factory color match to Vitamin C as I ordered some touch up by color code K-2 and it matched perfectly. The paint looks great and would suffice as a driver, but it has lots of surface flaws up close. There is still a bit of the original green visible on the trunk floor photo.
The body is straight and has never been in a serious accident. The floors and rockers are original and rust free as can be seen in the detail photos. One rear corner and the right front have small amounts of bondo. There is a minor surface rust spot visible at the left rear corner of the rear window. The door, hood and trunk gaps are excellent and they fit perfectly.The chrome on the bumpers is excellent and they are razor straight.
The car will need some electrical sorting-some of the lights/turn signals/dash components work on and offintermittently. There are some missing dash vents and no radio in the car.
Included is new weatherstrip for the doors and the trunk compartment, new body plugs and other miscellaneous new parts for the body,new dash woodgrain facia pieces, all of which should be installed or replaced.There is a slip on dash cover over the split original dash. Included with the sale are lots of new small pieces-screw kit for the entire interior, screw kit for exterior trim, window winders for the rear windows (and all hardware), an original style round shift knob and two new front side reflectors.
The interior is excellent overall (except for the aforementioned dash) with really nice upholstery on the seats, good door panels and a good headliner.
The replacement 383 runs strong and is POWERFUL. Performance tubing headers have been installed and can be seen in the cold start video above. The 4 barrelcarburetor has been rebuilt and the fuel system cleaned. It has a new gas tank. The gas gauge functions. The transmission has been freshly rebuilt. The shifter is the slapstick from a '71 or later car. New Cooper Cobra tires were installed earlier this year. There is no spare or jack. The car has current California registration and a clean California title in my name.
This is a great opportunity for the discerning buyer who knows the value of these 'Cudas. Here's a good running car that looks great, needs a bit of sorting and is now offered at an extremely reasonable price. If you're tired of the boring freeway drive looking at beige, grey and white, then add some color to your life and other's with Vitamin C!
