1963 Plymouth Valiant Project. This is a running and driving project car. 225 cu in Slant 6 MoPar engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and runs well. The car actually has power steering, which was fairly uncommon for valiants of this vintage. Newer replacement radiator, radiator cap, Sunvisors, defroster vents, water pump, fuel pump, battery, washer tank and pump, oil cap, fuel filter, belts, hoses, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires, as well as an electronic ignition system upgrade, to replace the ignition points. Intake and exhaust gaskets have been replaced with nice thick aftermarket copper gaskets, eliminating the common intake vacuum leaks, and exhaust leaks between the exhaust manifold and head. No cracks in the exhaust manifold, which was another common problem with the slant 6 engine. Rebuilt carburetor, Brakes work well, car does not pull to one side or the other. Tires have plenty of tread, and show no irregular wear, the car drives fine on the highway. At one point the electrical system harness was replaced, the horn, radio, and headlights do not work. Electrical system charges well. Fuel and temperature gauges work. The alternator gauge will work, but has been bypassed. Bypassing the alternator gauge is a common modification, it's done to eliminate the troublesome connections through the firewall from under the hood to under the dash. Bad connections at the bulkhead between the under hood and under dash wiring harness are frequent, so I automatically bypass the ammeter gauge in all my MoPar cars of that vintage. The speedometer does not work. The directionals work, but the lever rotates on the column. We had the transmission rebuilt about four years ago, but the transmission slips when the car is cold. It slips when you put it in gear the first time, if the car has sat for a long time. When I daily drove it, I just let it warm up for a few minutes each day. It slipped from the first day we got it back from the transmission shop. The slipping has never gotten any better or worse! Once the car warms up, the transmission shifts normally through the gears, no slipping between gears, or when pulling away from a stop, and engages immediately in drive or reverse when we use the pushbutton transmission selector. The slant 6 does not burn any oil, starts and runs great, no taps, knocks or any weird sounds, it just purrs away. Exhaust system is all there, no leaks. The cars has seen one repaint, and there are many little scratches, Knicks, dents, cracks in bondo, etc. It looks cool with the baby moon hubcaps. All of the glass is in great shape, no cracks, no delimitation or chips, no cloudiness around the edges, etc. All windows up and roll down nicely. No real rust on the car, just a little surface rust in some tiny dents. Headliner is great, no cracks in tail light lenses, it has been registered continuously in California it's whole life, and comes with both front and back original Black California license plates, the car is currently registered Non-OP in the state of California. We love this car and will miss Betty very much. She is definitely a project car, but a great place to start. We have way too many other projects now, and we really need the room! Here is a video of driving around the neighborhood.
