1970 Plymouth 'Cuda Additional Info:

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda

There's a difference between Barracuda and 'Cuda. The initial Barracuda was nothing more than a slightly redesigned and upgraded Plymouth Valiant. In fact, for years it bore the Valiant's nameplate. The production tried its level best to flood the dealers with the Barracuda so floated on the Valiant's platform. More so because the Ford Mustang was about to arrive. The 'Cuda name, which is the more performance-oriented Barracuda, only came about in 1969, five years after the official launch of the Barracuda. The Barracuda spanned three generations over a decade. Ever since, resurrection rumors have been rife but often without substance.

Offering for consignment, is a 1970 "barn find" version of the 'Cuda. This car has literally been sitting for the last 32 years and has suffered for it a bit. Some rusting of the panels, an interior that needs a full restoration and no engine, this is a blank palette for you to do whatever it is you want to it. Dream on, dream until your dreams come true!

Exterior
All steel with panels showing various stages of invasive rust damage. Particularly on the rockers and lower quarters front and rear. Also, some damage just below the rear window, prior to the trunk deck. Grille trim has some cracking, and rear panel with taillights shows a small area of rust, but with no cracking damage. Window trimmings and chrome bumpers are slightly pitted, and trimmings are mis-aligned but clean as presenting. A dual scooped hood is correct, and it has the factory pins for securing.

Interior
Floorpans are rusted through in certain areas, and bare uncarpeted metal floors are seen throughout. Original high back bucket seats up front and bench in the rear are torn, dry rotted, and dirty. The headliner is torn and sagging and has sustained water damage. A full restoration will need to be performed here. The original dash is present with all gauges, as well as a circa 1972-1974 steering wheel. In the trunk, the floor of it has been eaten away by invasive rust.

Drivetrain
No engine or transmission is installed in this car at present time. The rear axle is a 7 1/4" which is not correct for this car.

Undercarriage
Plenty of invasive rust, and floorpans will need to be replaced. Frame is structurally sound and shows slight surface rust. Suspension parts may be compromised with attachments to the frame as they show rust. Drum brakes are seen all around. Torsion bars provide the front suspension while leaf springs bring up the rear.

A 1970 'Cuda barn find, could be used for parts, or thought through for an ambitious restoration to make it exactly what you want. So, what will it be? Vitamin C? In Violet? Lemon Twist? Tor Red? The world is your 'Cuda!
