1973 Plymouth Duster
There are some cars that are easy to underestimate, and this 1973 Plymouth Duster is definitely one of them. Mopar's compacts were far more famous for being grocery-getter basic, but that isn't to say that the company didn't slip a few screamers out the door. Put a V8 in a lightweight car like this, and the performance is going to be impressive. So, forget what you think you know about garden-variety Dusters and have another look at this quick fixed Dark Green poly version.
As per the consigner, believed to be a matching numbers car. This has a rare factory sunroof and presents all stock with the exception of the addition of an Edelbrock carburetor and air cleaner, chrome valve covers, and American Racing Wheels. A breakdown of the build plate leans toward this being factual information...read on!
Exterior
Areas of body fill, and bondo, as well as some undulation in the panels, can be seen with a close look down the panels of this car. A dark green metallic poly respray in good condition covers the exterior of the car. Corresponding areas of Matte Black cover the hood, and the rear spoiler are noted. Two transverse stripes, running the length of the belt line, in gloss black, are split in the front quarter panels and doors, but merge just past the door and end with a black 340 on the rear quarters. Shiny roof drip rail moldings, and wide sill moldings are highlighting areas that are not the green poly or black. Also, in chrome is a driver's sport rear view mirror that is controlled by a joystick in the door panel. At the back of the car we see dual exhaust with factory chrome tipped pipes, a good rear bumper, and the tornado duster graphic in the center of the trunk.
Interior
Trim presents as the build plate denotes, that being Parchment Luxury Vinyl bench seats, and full door panels to match. The rear seat appears to fold, although we did not carry out this operation. An interior decor group featuring an inverted "V" dash with woodgrain, in fair condition with some chipping, and smudging on the metal areas. An AM radio, original spec to the car resides there as well.
Drivetrain
An original 340ci V8 with a modified Edelbrock intake and carburetor on top is seen in the patina engine bay. This is connected to a light duty automatic transmission.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, as well as a bit of invasive rust is seen on the underside of the rocker panel. Some repairs are evident, some areas of no repair are present. On the outer rocker panel bubbling in the paint is noticed. Underside of door jambs have areas of minimal surface rust but are otherwise unremarkable. As per the build plate, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes are noted.
