1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring
Just prior to the Arab oil embargo where all the muscle car makers were in a panic because of the skyrocketing price of gas, and they were forced into stringent emission control standards, this car was introduced. With fuselage styling (Chrysler Corporation's full-size cars had a peculiar styling, called the Fuselage Look. They were so-named because their sides were deep and rounded, like the fuselage on an airplane. As well, the cars' belt lines were so deep that window space was relatively shallow.) and a larger power plant for 1972 it was Damn the Torpedos!
There's just something about a broad shouldered Mopar that appeals to pretty much everyone with a pulse. Maybe it's their wow factor. Maybe it's the sense of strength they convey. Or maybe it's simply the surface development of their hard-edged panels. Whatever the case may be, this original Satellite in Sebring trim, carries all that classic Chrysler charm under a whole slew of details which highlight a clean and modern appearance, all the way back from 1972.
Exterior
A self-described "show paint job" carefully resprayed with Golden Haze, it will be difficult to find any a fault on this fuselage looker. Great looking Sebring trim is seen to start snaking rearward at the front bumper, going around the front wheel well, then headed back over the door and rear quarter panel where it goes for another up and down ride around the rear wheel well, and finally ending at the rear bumper. This similar style drip molding traces its way around the base of the consigner stated new black vinyl top and rear window. Also, one can see new Magnum 500 wheels and tires...and there you have it...Sebring trim.
Interior
A vinyl bench in Saddle Tan with matching door panels, and a rear bench fill the inside of the passenger compartment. Smart "Satellite Sebring" floor mats cover a very clean golden-brown carpet. A simple very clean (literally and figuratively) orderly dash stretches from door to door and is all original including the 38,044 miles that have been clocked during the long life of this car. A nice tight clean headliner tops the interior off, and noted is a very nice original steering wheel, and an AM Music Master radio in working condition.
Drivetrain
An unbelievably clean engine which touts a 318ci displacement, and blue paint, has all kinds of shine and no corrosion on any surface, as well as electronic ignition. The standard 2-barrel carburetor sits atop with a flawless air cleaner in black protecting the carb. Bolted on to the back is a TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust is noted on an otherwise clean undercoated frame and floor panels as well as underside of rockers. A Flowmaster dual exhaust sales its way rearward form the 318ci mill.
Mopar fans here is a true original. Always garaged, a onetime near perfect respray, and always maintained like a favorite prize flower, this beautiful and loooong car is a turn key classic.
