I purchased this 1972 Road Runner to build it about 5 years ago from someone who I befriended. I love factory 4-speed cars, especially the largely unloved ones like 400 and 360 cars. the seller was super cool and let the car sit until i could go pick it up...it was 750 miles away and I was broke after purchasing it and needed time to save up to go fetch the car...
.
I got it home stuffed the car inside my garage and started collecting pristine premium parts for it.

Around 4 years ago, I bought a very nice rust free 33,000 original mile driver 1971 Valiant 4-door slant six car. It wasn't a perfect car, but it was straight (hood and grille were damaged from the previous owners camper bumping into the car in his driveway while parked, during a very strong windstorm) what I felt was a very easy $2,000 in my pocket at the time. At any rate, a Mopar body and paint guy I dealt with a few times previously was suppose to paint the car for me so I brought the Valiant up to him (an hour away). One fine day he messaged me and expressed interest in the car, but of course he had no money. He offered to paint one of my cars in exchange for my Valiant. I thought this was a big win~win for us both!
He’s doing it on the side, out of his smaller one stall paint shop, so when it opened up I brought this 1972 Road Runner up to him, per our agreement. We both agreed that the Road Runner was not to sit outside, since it was already partially completed.
A good while later I brought a 2004 Ram 2500 to him to replace the rocker panels on and noticed a shell under a blue tarp next to his garage. Certainly this was not my Road Runner?!? It wasn't, or so he told me. Every-time I went up there, the car was there under the tarp never moving. My suspicion grew...but I can be a bit of a pessimist sometimes.
All along he kept telling me he was progressing with the Road Runner. I had several other dealings with him during the time that he had this 1972 Road Runner of mine. He had some life events happen, and this is just a car, so I was in no real rush to get it back or be one of those guys who pestered him constantly about it. I am very laid back and patient.
Finally, this summer, I started to pester him. I messaged or called him every few days. He finally told me he got it painted, but it did not turn out great, so he was stripping the car and going to re-spray it. About a week ago he told me it was done. All painted, buffed, blah, blah, blah….looking right. AWESOME!!!! I could not wait to get it back, catch was, he worked late all week so I could not pick it up just yet. Finally the weekend came, and he told me Sunday afternoon.
Sunday came and at 10:00am he sent me a text that it will be ready for pick up at 3:00pm. I hooked up my trailer and started heading his way...then I got a text saying that the car was out in his driveway and that he had somewhere else to be...
Oh boy, I knew what this meant...and it wasn't at all good. Fearing that the car wasn't even going to actually be able to be picked up, my heart sank. Though, I continued on, since I have nothing to lose at this point...imagine my surprise when I pulled in and there was my car, in gray primer, basically untouched. Sure enough, the blue tarps were there lying on the ground. I was filled with anger and sadness.
.
A week later, here we are...and I am selling the car almost exactly as I bought it, though including quite a few things the car didn't have when I purchased it!

I am selling my 1972 Plymouth Road Runner 4-speed project car.
.
The car is an original 400 High Performance big block, 4-speed transmission car that was originally B5 blue with black bucket seat / console interior and a black stripe.
.
This car is a factory hood pin car, factory tachometer car, and has a very nice fender tag.
.
The VIN tag, fender tag, radiator support VIN stamping, cowl VIN stamping, and title all match.
.
It is a solid car that still needs all the typical body work that a project takes to get it really nice. It has had front floor pans replaced and the quarter panels were 1971 quarters that were converted into 1972's. Something must have fell on The roof at one point as it has been repaired (knocked back into place). It isn’t pretty, but that will never be seen once a headliner is installed.
.
There is a little bit of rust here and there…in the trunk side floor pan, rear window channel, trunk lip area, and a small spot on one of the lower quarter panels. All of which can be easily fixed with very small patches. There is a crease in the bottom of the passenger side quarter panel.
I assure you, this is a better start to a project than any other Road Runner you will find for anywhere near this money.
.
Car is basically complete but it is all the way apart.
.
There is no engine assembly, 4-speed transmission assembly / set-up.
.
The car does have the interior present, including the original black bucket seats with tracks, a pretty decent 4-speed console, a decent rallye gauge cluster, as well as the glass (no windshield). The steering column that goes with the car is from an automatic car and complete with wheel.
Front bumper is straight and not dinged or rusted. Has 1971-72 Satellite grille installed in it and has the correct brackets for said grille as well as the proper bumper brackets.
Rear bumper is also straight and not dinged and complete with tail lights.
The underside of the car has been coated black, the under hood / engine compartment is correct B5 blue, and interior cabin has also been painted B-5 blue years ago. Still looks pretty good.
The 8-3/4" axle has been rebuilt and is painted (needs brakes)
The front suspension, sway bar, and K-member have been gone through and painted (new bushings, ball-joints, tie rod ends, shocks, and such).
.
As with any project, there is likely some small trinket items missing that I am unaware of.
.
If you are looking for a rolling project like this, I can only assume you already have a good understanding of what the car is, and the massive undertaking / amount of work it will take to build it.
.
.
Car is located in Warren, Michigan 48089 … easy access right off the interstate (I-696)
