This is the kind of car that gives Mopars their rare reputation. After all, when was the last time you saw a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible for sale? Especially one that is done this nice, driven by big block power, and has had big investments made to make sure it's always ready for sunny day fun.A red convertible with a black top is as desirable as it gets, and aren't you glad someone already invested the money to get it the color you would have done anyway. In fact, the included restoration receipts and photos will show you a $7,000 repaint that took this convertible down to bare metal. Plus, another $2,600 for the new power folding top. With paint this shiny, it meant investing $4,500 in chrome to make sure major areas like those extra wide bumpers and mesh grille were not getting out-glossed by the modern clearcoat red. But it's not just the piles of cash that were used to make this car look great; it's the details that make you fall in love, too. It has all the right premium Sport Fury trim, including the streak that runs the full length of the car, tri-color Sport Fury flag, and even the Commando V8 badges. And just like any good Mopar, it's all quite rare. Despite the turbine car-inspired styling, there were less than 6,275 Sport Furys built in 1965.When it came to restoring this Fury, the budget wasn't just spent on the exterior. You can see there was a lot invested in keeping the black vinyl and chrome trim of this top-of-the-line Fury looking it best. Because this is the ultimate Fury package, that means bucket seats with the turbine-inspired center console. When you sit down, you might notice how amazing the wheel looks and feels for a classic cruiser. That's because there was $750 spent to just restore this wheel! In front of that is the familiar rectangular Plymouth speedometer. That's flanked on your left by auxiliary gauges. On your right are the heater/defrost controls and the clock that's still ticking away. The original AM radio is still in place, but in a convertible this cool there was a modern AM/FM/CD head unit stashed in the glovebox so you can listen to modern tunes without ruining the vintage atmosphere. This Sport Fury truly lives up to its name with big block power under the hood. The Commando callouts were not lying. This came from the factory with the 383 cubic-inch V8 with four-barrel carburetor (advertised at 330 hp) and it still carries those specs today. So this has some true muscle car power, and it announces it to the world every time you fire it up and unleash the rumble of the dual exhaust. The engine bay has a very clean and stock appearance with Mopar turquoise on the block, tidy hoses, and the big black air cleaner. But beyond just looking original, the block decodes to a correct '65 383 ci V8, so we are looking at something original or close to it. Even with the big block under the hood, this one retains its cool cruising attitude. With great driving features like power steering and A-727 Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission, you can pile in the all your family and friends to enjoy this one at any time. Even those cool redline tires that match the paintwork hide the secret of a more modern tread and grip.Complete with a full file with restoration receipts, restoration photos, and title documentation, there was a huge investment in this convertible.
