Nearly four decades after it was parked, we purchased the car in March of 2013, through a broker, from the Prader family. During the time we have owned this car, we have gone through the mechanical systems and have rebuilt the front suspension. The underside of this car is as clean as the top. Mechanically, this car is dependable and has been used without issues as a show car and tow vehicle for classic trailer shows. The car has had a previous repaint of the original color. This copper color, Carmel Metallic, was only available on the “DeLuxe” series cars. Yes, this wagon is the top-of-the-line DeLuxe. Being the Deluxe model, it comes with some rare options such as the new for 1960 model, Aero Steering Wheel, small, compact like a pilot’s for maximum room. It has a sure, controlled “feel”. Available with power steering only.
Some of the many features on this DeLuxe edition beyond its flamboyant style and large tailfins are the 318 cubic inch Poli-hemi engine, the TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic Push Button transmission, 6 passenger capacity with fold down rear seat that leaves a cavernous rear cargo area, rear tailgate roll-down window, a flowing ribbon speedometer, Aero steering wheel, correctly appointed engine bay, all the stainless steel trim of the DeLuxe model is present, the addition of power brakes for driving comfort, and an impressive collection of this car’s original paperwork.
I understand the importance of original paperwork to the car collecting community. This vehicle comes with a remarkable collection of original paperwork retained by the original family that accompanied our purchase of the car. All the paperwork is original. There are no reprinted items.
Along with all the paperwork, the sale will include the wire spoke wheels shown in the photos, as well as the original steel wheels and hubcaps. (as seen in the spare tire photo)
This car has spent its entire 58-year life as a California car. It is still currently registered with the California black plates that were issued in 1963 to replace the California yellow plates of 1960.
This car is nearly 60 years old. It has not gone through a comprehensive restoration. It is not a new car. This car wears many original, untouched items that show more than half a century of age. (It wears its age well) There are items that may not be your idea of show condition. Chrome surfaces, even on a California car can show age and some parts that are pot metal will show pitting. Please take your time and view the photos. This car is available for an in-person inspection.I would encourage you to see the car in person. It shows well and works well. As with any restoration, you have to destroy originality to restore something. It is only original once. It will be up to the third owner to determine how much they wish to “improve” this car.
If the new owner is interested, inquire about some additional hard to find spare parts that are available for purchase and are not included in the purchase of the car.
This car is for sale locally as well as through this eBay auction. There is always a chance that someone in my local area will purchase the car before this eBay auction ends. If it sells locally I will end this eBay auction early. If you really want the car, use the Buy It Now option. That will create an immediate binding sale and will guarantee that you are the third owner of this automotive gem. The winning bidder is responsible for arranging shipping so vehicle is to be picked up within 30 days after sale. Happy bidding everyone!
