The 1937 Plymouth Businessman’s Coupe was the base model and was intended for use by salesman to call on customers to display their wares. The base model had only one windshield wiper and one taillight. For the ’37, the factory built 67,144 coupes and were built in Detroit, Los Angeles, Evansville and Windsor. The wheel base was 112 inches. The engine was a 6 cylinder straight six, with a Bore and Stroke 3 1/8x4 3/8, 201.2 Cu inches and compression was either 6.7 for the standar, or 5.2 for the economy. Horsepower was 82 @3600 rpm for the standard and 65 for the economy. Torque was 146@1200 for the standard and 138 for the economy. The weight of the car was 2,765 pounds and the cost was $575. The radio was an option. One of the unique features of the car was the location of the starter against the firewall. The driver turned the ignition key to the on position, pushed the starter against the firewall and the accelerator automatically went down approximately an 1 /8”and squirted gas into the one barrel carburetor and the car started instantly. The transmission was a standard “H” pattern with “three on the floor”. The businessman usually kept his samples on a shelf with three compartments located directly behind the driver’s seat. This particular vehicle was painted aquamarine blue and has beautiful mohair interior and was restored to a high degree.
