This Plymouth, envisioned by its owner as the perfect mix of classic muscle car attitude and first class modern performance, is one of the coolest 'Cuda pro-tourers! Professionally built, from its tweaked suspension and 440 cubic inch Magnum V8 to its custom interior and Boyd Coddington wheels, this Chrysler is dangerously fast and brutally appealing. If you're searching for a bad to the bone classic that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and priced so well you'll have to pinch yourself, you've found your next car!
After spending most of its life as a clean daily driver, this awesome E-Body was the perfect starting point for an outrageous frame-up build that mixed a killer big block engine with classic Mopar attitude. The car's arrow-straight body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of better-than-factory alignment, was stripped to bare metal, married to new quarters and massaged into spectacular surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, a rich coat of House of Kolor Cobalt Purple was detailed with Black rally stripes and sealed under a glossy clearcoat shell. And today, this positively evil Mopar sits as one super slick road warrior that features a perfect combination of no-nonsense looks and vicious street manners.
Thanks to a 1970 redesign, the 'Cuda lost all commonality with its Valiant stablemate and finally traded its lowly economy car lineage for the square-jawed muscle car image we all know and love. At the front of this sinister stoplight brawler, a black, “PLYMOUTH” branded grille hangs crystal clear headlights between a bright chrome bumper and clear, flush-fitting parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a “PRO TOURING” branded shaker props traditional stainless pins in front of like-new glass, straight stainless trim and body-matched sport mirrors. At the sides of that shaker, fresh marker lamps and pristine Chrysler door handles highlight a smooth, professionally finished profile. And at the back of those marker lamps, a traditional black valence hangs like-new tail lights and a cool silver “'cuda” emblem between an AAR-style spoiler, a third “PRO TOURING” script, a second bright bumper and small, stainless exhaust tips.
When you unpin the car's purple and black hood and find a fully detailed Magnum 440 that's amped to roughly 525 horsepower, you certainly won't be disappointed! At the top of the highly impressive mill, a traditional Hemi shaker funnels wind into a giant Demon 4-barrel that's centered between tightly braided hoses, a liquid-filled Holley pressure gauge and a tall Edelbrock Victor 440 intake. At the sides of that intake, familiar Edelbrock Performer RPM heads hang polished Mopar Performance valve covers over a big hydraulic roller cam and clean, long-tube headers. At the front of those headers, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences fire between an MSD 6AL box, an MSD Blaster 2 coil and red MSD Super Conductor plug wires. In front of those wires, an attractive Billet Specialties Tru Trac system spins a high performance water pump between a chrome alternator and a chrome AC compressor. And in front of that compressor, a Ron Davis radiator sends water past two 13 inch electric puller fans. Aesthetically, the subdued black block provides an excellent complement to the car's smooth, Cobalt Purple engine bay. And details like a polished power steering tank, a fresh master cylinder and custom-bent transmission lines exchange pro-touring's typical 'all-business' mindset for a well-rounded, show worthy engine bay.
Like its exterior panels, the bottom of this super cool E-Body is solid, road ready and in excellent shape! The powerful Magnum engine sends its thrust through a rebuilt A727 Torqueflite that's equipped with a vented, deep sump fluid pan. That rugged transmission is connected to a traditional 8.75 inch Chrysler rear end that spins a posi-traction differential around comfortable, road-ready gears. That awesome drivetrain is held off the ground by a solid torsion bar and leaf spring suspension which benefits from Lakewood Drag Shocks, modern power steering and beefy sway bars. Exhaust duties are handled by 2.5 inch, true-dual pipes that send spent gases through an X-shaped crossover, great sounding Magnaflow mufflers and traditional stainless tips. Stops come courtesy of four Baer calipers that squeeze big drilled and slotted rotors. And power flows to the ground through classy Boyd Coddington Magnetos that spin two 255/35ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme radials in front of two 275/35ZR20 Nitto NT555 Extreme radials. Overall, this Plymouth's solid frame and undercoated floors are clean and display no signs of rust or serious weathering. And everything from the car's braided fuel lines to its Milodon deep sump oil pan is fully sorted and ready to go!
Swivel this coupe's solid-closing doors and you'll find a simple black interior that's accented with cool Alligator inserts. The front bucket and rear bench seats are covered in showroom fresh leather that displays no signs of wear at all. Below those seats, stain-free carpet anchors “'cuda” branded floor mats next to pristine stainless door sills. At the sides of that carpet, sculpted panels integrate traditional chrome handles above chrome switches for both power locks and power windows. In front of those panels, a clean black dash hangs a familiar Rally instrument cluster above a Kenwood CD player, controls for the car's Vintage Air climate system and a hidden Auto Meter Pro Comp Liquid Filled oil pressure gauge. Below that dash, an optional console centers a factory-accurate shifter inside a stylish, driver-oriented contour. In front of the driver, a 14 inch Billet Specialties steering wheel spins around a modern tilt steering column. And behind the passengers, a new trunk pan anchors an Optima gel cell battery next to ample storage space.
This awesome 'Cuda has it all: looks to kill, power that never stops and a list of components that would take a builder six figures to duplicate. It's fast, comfortable, stylish, if you've got the fever for a reliable, old school muscle car that can be enjoyed for years to come, this broad shouldered Plymouth is just what the doctor ordered!
