1971 Plymouth Duster Additional Info:
Up for Auction is our 1971 Plymouth Duster that was traded in at the local Chrysler dealer in our area. The car originally was purchased in Madison Wisconsin by a gentleman who also happened to work for Chrysler. It was traded in on a newa new lime green Dodge Challenger RT.
The gentleman had several muscle cars he was tinkering with and decided he was going to buy something he could drive everyday. He was done with his urge to tinker and the rest is history. We have owned this car for several years and it has been stored in our storage warehouse with other cars we collect mostly of which are older Pontiac or GM models. In early February we had a tragic fire and our dealership burned down to the ground. In order to rebuild and regain our focus I though it was time to sell off part of our collector cars.
This car was built at the Michigan assembly plant and originally had a 318hp V8 installed. Somewhere down the line the original motor was replaced and a 340hp V8 was installed. At the present time the car has a 360hp V8 which was completely rebuilt and installed when I purchased the car. The reason I replaced the 340hp V8 was quite simple. I am not a mechanic or have vast knowledge of building performance engines. The 340hp V8 was built for performance and quite honestly did not fit what I wanted the car to do which was drive down the road and not the drag strip. The 340hp V8 that was in the car runs and will be included in the sale to the new owner.
An engine shop near Green Bay Wisconsin that rebuilds muscle car engines from the ground up says it is worth at least a $1000 or maybe more. They charge $2500 or more to rebuild various muscle car engines.
The body on the car is not perfect but it definitely is way better than most. We never did any body work to the car and the way you see it is the way it was traded in to us. We cleaned up some areas like the trunk and installed a new trunk mat. All fluids were changed and a new battery was installed. Presently this car has an electronic fuel pump which needs to be turned on prior to starting. It does comes with Hooker headers and features duel exhaust.
When we have taken this car to several local car shows it draws a lot of attention. This car is perfect for someone who truly loves Mopar and has the time to put the finishing touches on it both cosmetically and mechanically.
