Consider her the better, junior sister to “Christine,” the Plymouth Fury depicted in Stephen King’s novel of the same name. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to offer this 1957 Plymouth Savoy Sport Club Coupe that has been a long term Arizona car and the originality has survived very well in the dry climate. This Savoy is a early performance hardtop Mopar that is equipped with the dual quad carburators, dual exhaust and dual antennas. One of the original models that grandpa used to drive to work everyday and then go drag racing on the weekend!
Chrysler head stylist Virgil Exner stunned his Detroit competitors when the 1957 models were unveiled; the headlines blared, “Suddenly, it’s 1960!” and GM and Ford stylists had some ‘splainin to do to their respective bosses.
Under the hood is Chrysler’s venerable 318 CID V-8, the top engine offering that year. It has the rarely seen and highly desirable factory dual quad carburetors topped by air cleaner housings painted gold, as are the valve covers. It breathes via dual exhaust and is mated to a two-speed Powerflite automatic transmission with push button controls. The car also featured Torsion-Aire suspension, which became Chrysler’s benchmark suspension feature until its final rear-drive car left the assembly line in the late 1980s, though no air was involved in the system’s operation.
This particular unit is finished in Deep Magenta with a Black Cherry roof. The paint and trim are in overall good condition, with minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The glass panels are clear and crack-free, as are the vehicle’s lights. The car rolls on whitewall tires, sized 215/75R14 at all four corners, surrounding factory wheels and wheel covers. All of the body panels are solid and straight. The engine bay is in very tidy and the battery is in good order. The Savoy’s bumpers are in good condition and the car comes with dual rear antennas.
Inside, the car’s red interior complements the exterior. The front and rear bench seats are in excellent like new condition with correct looking fabric material. The black carpet is in decent shape, as is the headliner. The black instrument panel is in very good condition, complete with tachometer mounted in the corner at the driver’s left hand. Fuel and temperature gauge are inoperable. The black, two-spoke steering wheel is in similar condition to the dash. The door panels and mirrors are in good order. Completing the interior is the factory AM radio.
Competition to this Plymouth in 1957 included Chevrolet’s 210 Delray Club Coupe, Dodge’s Coronet Club Sedan, Ford’s Fairlane 500 Club Sedan and Oldsmobile’s Super 88 Jetaway two-door sedan.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 14,013 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, actual mileage Arizona title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
