1939 Plymouth P8 Sedan

I am putting up for No-Reserve Auction, another one of the cars out of my small collection that I have acquired over the years. It is my original 1939 Plymouth P8 Sedan, 43,409 actual miles, 2 owner car.

I have owned this car for a few years now and had purchased it from the 2nd owner who had owned it since 1971. The plates that are on the car now are actually from the first year he purchased it. He only really drove the car the first year after he purchased it and then put it in storage so the plates never got updated. The story of how he acquired the car was actually pretty interesting as he owned the dealership where it was sold new. He had owned the dealership for decades and when it came time for him to retire he sold the dealership to a new owner, but a few weeks before that the original lady who bought the car new brought it in to trade on a newer used car. He liked the car so as part of the sale of the dealership he kept the P8, along with 13 other cars that he had under his dealership’s name at the time. (That’s probably why he did not drive the car as much as expected)

After I bought the car from his estate and me hearing how long it had been sitting, I decided to take it to my long time friend and mechanic who performs work on all my cars to go around it and do a full inspection and service to get the car back to full working order so that I could drive it whenever I wanted to. I believe he had the car for almost a month, changing all of the fluids, a full brake job, new tires, and driving it to lunch a couple times a week to find any issues that presented themselves in the first hundred or so miles after being stored for so long.

I enjoyed owning the car over the past few years and drove it around my neighborhood on nice evenings I’d say probably a couple times a month. It is a 30’s car (if only just) so it’s no secret that is not the best for long journeys or highway travel. That’s not saying I would trust the car for something like that, only that you’d really have to take your time and probably go a little slower to where the car felt most comfortable at.

The car runs and drives great age considering and I’ve had no problems with it since I had all of the maintenance done after my initial purchase. As far as the condition of the car goes, you can see in the pictures that I tried to show the car in its everyday clothes. It is an original car so expecting perfection is not the way to go. The car has some wear here and there on some of the interior pieces as you can see, nothing major, only the normal spots where these old interiors typically deteriorated. (some of the seams appear a little weak, some minor fading along the door panels, some wear around window cranks, above the rear view mirror etc…) The paint is in great shape but shows some patina, but that is something that I really like about the car and isn’t easily replicated or commonly found.

The car has no rust issues that I had to address except for the very bottom of the rear driver door that I had some repair work done on within a month of me owning it. (the rust was removed and repaired properly so as not to spread or return again) While rust is never something you’d like to see on a car, I was very pleased that that was the only area I had to address when I bought the car. Everything else in regards to the condition you should be able to grasp and see from the pictures. The car is in great original condition so overall I was very pleased with the condition.

I am selling the car so I can move on to something else I’ve had my eye on for a while (shame I can’t keep everything). It is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and I can keep it for a couple weeks or a month after the auction if you are distant and need some time to organize a shipper or plan logistics, I have no problem with that. I know a couple truckers I have used in the past for my cars, so if you’d need assistance with that I could help arrange it too, or at least help you find someone if you’d like. Message me with any questions about the car, if you’d like to have it inspected, or come see it yourself. I’d be happy to answer any questions!
