How do you describe an incredible example of a rarely restored 1965 rare Rallye pack option Barracuda? Let’s start with the car, a numbers matching (with build sheet) 46,000 mile (believed accurate) rust-free solid starting point. Then rebuild the entire suspension front & back, including shocks and leaf springs. Then rebuild the numbers-matching automatic floor shift with console transmission and install new engine and dash wiring harnesses. Then we completely restored the interior with new carpet, A-pillar moldings, front and rear legendary seats covers with new seat foam, door panels, headliner, armrests, kick panels, sunvisors, glove box and dash pad cover. The interior has won a best of show interior award it is so nice, and prepared in a matching flaming viper red color.
Then let’s go to the dash. All the original gauges work now, with a new dash bezel, switches, circuit board and gauge sending units, new speakers and Retrosound AM/FM/Bluetooth radio. We then rebuilt the heater box and defroster/heater/vent lines and boxes, repainted the console and repainted (by hand) the original Barracuda interior emblems to original.
Next we went to the brakes. This is the only change from original-we changed to new front disc brakes for safety and installed new rear brakes, a new dual-bowl master cylinder and all new brake lines on the manual brake system.
Now for the engine. The original 273 4-barrel rally pack was tuned up, flushed, we rebuilt the carburetor and re-cored the radiator, replaced the heater core, and all hoses and belts, adjusted the solid lifters and evacuated and recharged the original, dealer installed air conditioning (yes it works). We even installed a Mopar reproduction correct battery.
Finally let’s look at the exterior. We start with a complete brand-new Viper red paint job and special stripe system as seen in the pictures, installing all new rubber door and trunk gaskets. We replaced the windshield and gasket, door handles and locks, and installed Mopar 14” road wheels and BF Goodrich radials. We hand painted to original all the exterior emblems and replaced the window chrome on the back window. And then, with a high gloss buffing, an engine compartment detailing and an interior clean up we had an incredible example of an original, believed to be less than 50,000 mile 1965 rally pack Barracuda with an numbers matching original 273 4 barrel, automatic transmission, power steering, air conditioned that cost about $2,500 new, and that you can have today by adding one more zero at the end!
