1949 Packard Deluxe 8 This is a 22nd Series 1949 Packard Deluxe Eight. The 22nd series was produced from the fall of 1947 through the spring of 1949. It was the highest selling series in Packard's 58 year history. Packard won a number of styling awards when these cars were introduced. The car was painted in 2003 in it's original Sylvan Green color. Enjoy the video road test & tour of this 1949 Packard here. This fine example was found in Montana and was never on the Packard Club roster until being purchased by the current owner. The car was obviously very well maintained. It retains it's original engine and drive train, as well as its original interior. This is literally the only major flaw in the original interior. Without documentation, we cannot list the mileage as original. The current owner was told by the previous owner that it is, but who really knows. Looking at the interior and all around condition it could be possible. All gauges appearto be accurate. The clock works intermittently. The radio hums but doesn't play. it may have something to do with the aftermarket antenna. The original vacuum antenna is in the trunk. Within the last year, the current owner has replaced the carburetor, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the generator with an alternator, replaced all ignition parts, hoses and fan belt, replaced the clutch, and replaced all fluids. With it's light Packard steering, the car is a pleasure to drive. The 288 ci straight 8 produces 130 hp.With the overdrive, you have no problem reaching speeds of 70-75 miles per hour. The car starts easily under all conditions. The original body tag is a bit worn, but it shows the paint scheme as N which is Sylvan Green. In the trunk is a factory spare wheel and older U.S.Royal tire. The owner just repainted the other 4 rims and had the new Firestone wide whites installed in 2018. You will also find theoriginal generator and the original vacuum operated antenna which needs restoring. The undercarriage is very original and and un-restored. Considering this car is 69 years old, it's not in bad condition. |
