Beautifully solid, Junior Packard coming from the same former owner of 29 years! Magnificently maintained having been museum kept at the Kokomo Automobile Museum in Indiana since 1998! Recently serviced to include complete fuel & brake service, now ready to enjoy! Hard not to fall in love with the look of this outstandingly presented example!
With the introduction of the more affordable, and economical Packard Six, considerably more buyers found the luxurious manufacturer’s showrooms nationally! Sales were brisk, even with the 1938 recession, making the exclusive Packard brand available to almost anyone! This provided the same power, reliability, and styling only Packard could deliver. As they stated for years, “Just Ask a Man Who Owns One!” The quality spoke for itself!
Offered here is a 1939 Packard Six 2-passenger Business Coupe finished in an attractive Pale Green over Light Green Beige ribbed broadcloth interior. Power comes from a smooth, and amazingly quiet 245ci Inline 6 cylinder engine mated to the first year 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission, offering a stout 100 horsepower! Options and features include near perfect Goddess of Speed hood ornament, factory AM radio, amber front fog lamps, dash clock, Dual-Loc Junior locking gas cap, front grill guard, driver’s side outside mirror, Standard heater with defrost, sealed beam headlamps, added turn signals, dual horns, carpeted trunk, vacuum wipers, and more!
This example sold new from Klausing Motor Company based on Center Street in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and stayed in the Indiana area its entire life. The previous owner of 29 years purchased this example from the son of an Indianapolis owner in 1989. He took the liberty of fully reconditioning the car over the next two years to include completely rewiring the entire car with a kit provided by Harnesses Unlimited, restoring the interior dash & window faux wood finish professionally by Elgy Brintnall of Tranverse City, MI, also rebuilding the steering column with new bearings, refinishing the steering wheel, rechroming certain dash appointments, adding new interior upholstery, simply color sanding & polishing the exterior paint to remarkable condition, adding new radiator thermostats for the grill louvers, rebuilding the factory AM radio and adding a FM convertor for modern radio stations, and more! Looking over this stunning Packard closely, you will see fresh rubber seals around all windows & doors that remain soft, clear window glass, almost unused (but older) Lester Tire Co. 4-ply 7.00-16 wide whitewall tires, smooth glossy paint, gorgeous hand-applied dark green painted pin stripping on the body & wheels, carpeted trunk to match the interior cabin floor, beautiful chrome, excellent body & panel fitment, and more!
Prior to its departure from the Kokomo, IN Automotive Museum in April 2018, the gas tank was removed, repaired, cleaned, tested, and sealed before a the rebuilt fuel pump was installed and fresh fuel added. When it arrived to the St. Louis Car Museum in May 2018, the entire brake master cylinder assembly was replaced, along with new brake fluid in the system. It starts, runs, shifts, brakes, and drives extremely well! For the next owner, it will come with an owner’s manual, workshop manual, factory stamped Packard ID tag (new one installed with factory screws on firewall), service receipts dating back to 1989, spare tire, auxiliary jack, and crank, and clean title. This presents a terrific opportunity for an enthusiast collector to join the Packard community with a superb Junior Six that will turn heads wherever it goes! Please feel welcome to call with additional questions or schedule a chance to review in person. Act quickly on this one!! It represents a lot of collector car for the money!
