1936 Packard Model 1401 cloth Additional Info:
Selling the Jem of my private vintage car collection!
"Wilma" is named after the fine woman who, after years of asking, agreed to sell me her late husband's wonderful1936 STANDARD EIGHT Model 1401Sedan.
The car is an amazing original condition "survivor" having been in their family since the 1950s. I bought the car from dry California where it had been pampered and cared for as an honored family member for all those years. The woman's son finally called and told me his mother was ready to sell the car as her husband could no longer remember the fine old car due to Alzheimer's.
In 1936 Packard offered the new, smaller, model 120 Packards and they were a great sales success. The large Packards, like this 1401 STANDARD EIGHT model, while still being offered, but only some 5000+- units of the large car were moved compared to the new model 120's 50,000+. The new low price car with much of the same advanced features and Packard quality for a1930s era auto were a bargain!
This car is in amazing original condition! NO RUST THROUGH ANYWHERE. Paint patina yes, minor chrome surface rust only. Rock slid heavt fenders and body parts.
The car has a set of very RARE original body color painted FACTORY disc hubcaps for all six wheels. Factory luggage rack. All lights and gauges work except the accessory factoty radio. ( probably just needs tubes)
Over the 12 years I have owned this classic, I have done everything needed to make this car a reliable crusier and still keep it all original!
This engine is the magnificent straight eigth Packard with ALUMINUM CRANK CASE Car has ower assited brake unit and auto oiler for the valves. Very advanced car for 1936.ENGINE WAS PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT in 2017. My master vintage car mechanic correctly bored the cylinders, valves and head etc and reassembled what had been a good solid engine to begin with! The engine is so quiet you might not even know it is running. The engine rebuild alone cost $8000! Trans is smooth and quiet and shifts perfectly.
Interior is ALL ORIGINAL cloth with wood burl trim. Good chrome knobs and escutcheons . window risers and no missing handles or parts. Pull down privacy shades and cigarette lighters in rear ashtrays.
The car only has 44K I have only driven the car monthly to local cruise nights a few miles from my home. Has good tread tires. New rebuilt radiator and hoses. Rebuilt Distributor, starter and good generator.New Plugs and wires. Newer battery with warrantee, Windshield wiper motors work and car has original intact inside sun visors.
Wire wheels are sound and un rusted, All hubcaps, mirrors and badges are original. I replaced rear flat glass side window and new windshield to original specs.
In conclusion, this magnificent large Packard always is the most popular vehicle at the shows and cruise nights! All the car guys and girls are amazed at its fine condition after eighty plus years! Always voted most popular.
You'll rarely find another classic of this quality in such magnificent condition. A vehicle that I have improved back to better than original condition and as it was manufactured in 1936.
No expense or items has been overlooked. Yu can buy a car that is ready to drive or show with great pride as it is so very UNIQUE!
This is my very favorite vintage car of the dozens I have owned over years of collecting!
I only offer it today as it is time to see it go to a new home. It remains an EXCELLENT INVESTMENT due to its condition and RARITY! Always appreciating an pleasing all who come across it!
